Trump can recover from the abortion comment by saying that the question was about if it was illegal would you punish, and there has to be a punishment if something is illegal or else what is the point of the law?
Setting the hot button issue of abortion aside, the problem in Washington today is that laws are being selectively enforced or not enforced at all, and that has to stop. If you're going to make something illegal, including abortion, then you have to back it up with a punishment.
Going further, what if abortion were swapped out for carrying guns? What if the question were instead "If carrying a handgun was made illegal, would you punish someone with a gun?" The same answer that I gave applies.
If he says that, he'll be fine.

“Trump can recover from the abortion comment by saying that the question was about if it was illegal would you punish, and there has to be a punishment if something is illegal or else what is the point of the law?”
_______________
Trump gave the logical and moral answer; rather than the PC political answer.
If you “buy into” Rich Lowery and other “consistent conservative’s” “pat” answer: i.e.: “The abortionist is the criminal and the woman having the abortion is a victim;” then, if you really are CONSISTENT, you must also apply the same “victimhood” logic to any other crime. (Assuming the aborted woman gave her consent and was not actually victimized by a rapist or was unable to give legal consent (i.e.: a child or mentally incompetent individual).
So, if you apply the above logic, it follows that if someone murders someone w/a weapon, they are a “victim” of whomever made or provided the weapon. The drunk driver is the “victim” of whomever provided the alcohol and/or the vehicle. The list of “victims” could go on ad nauseum. Essentially, no one could be held responsible for any illegal actions.
That said, it’s a ridiculous hypothetical question and would best have been brushed aside w/the observation that SCOTUS has already ruled that abortion is legal; and, thus, any change in the law is beyond the purview of the Presidency.
Who should be punished about abortion?
The Supreme Court?
Hollywood that glorifies it?
The doctors?
Planned Parenthood?
The women?
Or the strong advocates who go on television and say they are totally 100% pro abortion rights, even partial birth abortion? Like Donald Trump.
That’s excellent, PJ2!
I tried to make the same yesterday on that thread that went wild, but not nearly as eloquent or succinct as you.
Instead, I took the view of 2 parties (doctor and woman) entering into an illegal act or contract and both would be open to punishment by law.
Of course, some or most of us here, realize that abortion is akin to murder and is actually murder in later stages of pregnancy.
Nice day here, 81 OUTSIDE, so I have been listening to Rush on the radio and playing with my puppy, Louie.
If you kill a pregnant woman you are charged with two murders so why is an abortion not killing a human being?
