A foreign same-sex couple battling a local Thai surrogate for custody over their infant daughter said Wednesday their lives had been "destroyed" by the 14-month legal war that has prevented their family from returning home.
Manuel Valero, from Spain, and his American husband Gordon Lake, both 41, were blocked from leaving Thailand with their daughter Carmen after the surrogate refused to sign necessary paperwork following the birth last January.

I have noticed in other similar stories that male homosexual couples often want daughters. They want to dress them up, do their hair, etc.

I do not believe that this is a case of surrogate mother. The couple can provide sperm, but cannot provide an egg. If the Thai women provided the egg, then she is the mother, not a surrogate.
Reminds me of this 10 year old singer on a reality show. When he was shown the door, he sobbed, “But, I’ve worked hard for this my entire life!!”
And I would bet they got her dirt cheap.
