There’s a thread around here that speculates that the Five Mistresses story was created and leaked by Cruz’s own campaign manager, Jeff Roe.
The theory is that he did it to get the story out and let the controversy roar- but that it is greatly exaggerated and that there was only one actual affair, that one being with Amanda Carpenter. By comparison to the initial story of serial adultery Cruz comes out looking better.
This is a PR technique. You anchor something big in the public mind- five mistresses - and then the public finds out that it was only one. So in relative terms it’s not so bad.
Dunno if it’s true, but it fits the facts if Ted and Amanda did have an affair and others were threatening to make it public. It would be something that Team Cruz would have to deal with in a way that would take some of the sting out of it.
