First, the legislators came for encrypted phones, because terrorists were apparently using encryption. (Except they weren't.) Now, they're coming for prepaid phones. Sure, customers will still be able to buy prepaid phones. They'll just have to "register" with their local retailer in order to do so.
A bill proposed in congress this week would require that all users provide identification and register prepaid burner phones upon purchase....Even if this passes, it will do little to allow law enforcement agencies to follow up on burners recovered after attacks. Criminals and terrorists won't be presenting identification -- at least not theirs -- to retailers. In fact, they're going to do what they've done before: use straw purchasers or buy directly from resellers who fall outside of the bill's likely purview -- like individuals or online retailers.
This will have little investigative worth, but it will generate a ton of records on people who don't have any option but to buy prepaid phones, whether it's due to credit issues or a lack of verifiable identification. Many won't have the ID options requested, like credit/debit cards. Some may not have state ID/Social Security cards either. Adding this requirement will just inflict further difficulties on people whose lives are filled with difficulties already....

Rather than live in a Police State, why not control our borders and STOP inviting thugs to our country?
All Congressmen should be required publicly list all electronic devices used by them and their staff, both government issued and personal. They should also make available for public inspection the logs of all telephone calls, and the actual text of all e-mails and text messages, for them personally, and for their staff, including their campaign employees.
They want to know everything about us, it’s only fair we get the same information from them.

Jackie Speier Is a Rare Politician One Whos Survived Being Shot

so.....she was shot in Guyana, so the obvious solution is to work for gun control here?
What a SOOOOOOOPER Genius!
Is there anything at all on Planet Earth that the pols DON’T want to register/control?
Themselves.
Then there will just be “straw buyers” of prepaid cell phones who resell them, creating a whole new industry for Mooslim immigrants.
The government should be satisfied with their latest abilities to spy on us. There are millions of cameras everywhere with face recognition software about to go prime time. The to and from addresses of all US mail is put into a database. Phone caller and called party numbers are put into a database. Internet activity is put into a database. Emails are put into a database. All sorts of mobile phone calling information is recorded. Credit card transactions are recorded. Airplane travel is recorded. Automobile license numbers are photographed. What am I leaving out?
Government will always ask for more.
As usual, they make life harder for the innocent, non-violent citizens, and do nothing to keep violent savages from carrying out their savagery.
Even worse, she was shot by commies, now she happily sits next to all the commies in today’s Democrat party.
Typical libtard.....
Well, since 1989 the government has required that all babies born in the US be registered
with the federal government and issued a federal Identification number at birth.
HISTORY OF SOCIAL SECURITY: https://www.ssa.gov/history/ssn/ssnchron.html
Can we please ditch the national anthem? Land of the free and home of the brave? Are you kidding me? If you think, we have freedom, you have very low standards. More laws, controls and regulations every day. Maybe you are from N. Korea if you think we are free. Home of the brave. Americans are terrified to face life without daddy/ nanny state.
Oh. Democrat.
“Representative Jackie Speier, the congresswoman who introduced the bill, called the prepaid phone (a) loophole...”
The only loophole these a-holes should be worried about is the one their heads are stuffed through before the trap door opens!
Liberals love their registers.
Fight terrorism! Register something.
“Even worse, she was shot by commies, “
Unfortunately, you’re wrong. She wa shot by the followers of Reverend Jim Jones.
