Just a guess but maybe the checking for weapons is done at the visitors center before visitors enter the Capitol itself....and Shazam they found one.

Obviously, “gun control” is not nearly as effective as the most draconian laws in America could possibly make it.
At least one managed to evade detection.
Why? Is the detection protocol simply not that thorough, or did somebody avert eyes for just a few minutes?
