Yah, the government is going to outlaw Java. There are probably only a few billion lines of it out there, running everything from your ATMs to your hair dryer.

Get real.

Yep. Assembler — or machine code — is the only PURE language. You want to talk to the CPU? You don’t need no stinking compiler!

Anyone who spends too much time getting bent out of shape about a programming language probably spends most of their time at work dicking around on the internet. That said, I do have my preferences, but very often it is based on the situation. It may not be universal but my experience is that “language of choice” advocates tend to suck in other languages rather than other languages sucking.

I have to agree ‘C’ is the arch villian. The semi-colon ‘;’ and the brackets ‘{}’ are the root of all evil and must die. Maybe that’s why Python wasn’t included.

It will destroy your family and cause tooth decay.

How about APL?

The original two-token authentication -- not only did you have to learn the cryptic language, you needed a special keyboard with the symbols on it to program in it.

RPiG was another cryptic winner.

The below quotes resonated with me after reading books about breaking the German Enigma code. The naval code was penetrated because operators failed to follow instructions for using it. Senior officers on U-boats and the Doenitz staff used it too often and messages were in predictable formats. The British had way too much data to use as a base for analysis. I like the observation of one analyst who said they would have been a lot better off if they have sent some types of information in the clear.

On land it was used much more as it was intended and often frustrated British efforts.

“So what we have is a petition to outlaw languages that, if used badly, might lead to security problems in critical infrastructure. It has its faults but none of them are as significant as the problems programmers can introduce.”

One glaring flaw in the Enigma doesn’t get the attention it deserves.

No letter/number could ever translate to itself. Therefore, you always new what letter any letter wasn’t.

That is right. I forgot about that problem and I am sure it was solvable. Makes me wonder why it was not addressed in one of its versions?

I guess we kicked their ass before they could invent floppy disks for ROM updates.
