Daily Beast: Rubio allies shopped Cruz affair rumors to the media
Hot Air ^ | 3/25/2016

Man, this is going to make the inevitable “Rubio endorses Cruz” photo op next week awkward — unless it torpedoes the possibility of an endorsement altogether. Better that it comes out now than after the Cruz/Rubio “unity ticket” forms, eh?

It may very well be that Trump’s allies handed the story off to the Enquirer, say Betsy Woodruff and Asawin Suebsaeng, given Trump’s chumminess with CEO David Pecker. But Rubioworld was there first.

For months and months, anti-Cruz operatives have pitched a variety of #CruzSexScandal stories to a host of prominent national publications, according to Republican operatives and media figures. The New York Times, The Washington Post, Bloomberg News, Politico, and ABC News—reporters at all those outlets heard some version of the Cruz-is-cheating story. None of them decided to run with rumors. Those publications’ representatives all declined to provide on-the-record comments when The Daily Beast reached out for this article.

Breitbart News, the notoriously Trump-friendly conservative outlet, was also pitched the story of Cruz’s extramarital affairs, according to a source close to the publication. That source said an operative allied with Marco Rubio—but not associated with his official campaign—showed the publication a compilation video of Cruz and a woman other than his wife coming out of the Capitol Grille restaurant and a hotel on Tuesdays and Thursdays. But the outlet opted not to report on the video, which demonstrated no direct evidence of an affair.

“We got it from a Rubio ally,” said the source. “It was too thin, so [Breitbart’s Washington political editor Matt Boyle] decided not to run it. There was no way to verify the claims.”

at least a cruz/Rubio ticket could win.

Both Los Pollos Hermanos are ineligible to seek the presidency of the United States.

Good point. Something else popped into my mind.

At a brokered convention the GOPe could easily approach Ted and tell him this story will not play well with voters in the general election and therefore they cannot support him for President or the VP slot.

the allegation is already proven true because Cruz would have filed a restraining order to prevent the rumor from being published if it weren’t true

I know, right. What happened to Cruz's mad, dope Constitutional and debating skillz?

Non eligible, not Natural Born Citizens, Cubans, Chihuahua Marko and Pinocchio Ted attacking Big Donald at CNN freestyle match.

Cruz "character":

1. Phony summonses mailed out, scaring people to vote for Cruz.

2. Claiming Carson quit, presinc captains told voters "vote for Cruz"

3. Campaigning in the 800 churches, showing video "vote for me" with his preacher/father stomping for him. Rafael Cruz is a Seven Mountain Dominionist and believes his son is the anointed one.

4. "Brilliant" lawyer, did not know he was Canadian citizen and that he is not Natural Born Citizen, not eligible for office of P or VP.

5. Making phony video advertising with lies about opponents.

Just enough to beat Trump in IA, apologize, rinse and repeat?
Liar is the polite term for this Cuban. His father was pro-communist in Cuba, imprisoned by Batista, but now he is refugee?

IRREFUTABLE AUTHORITY HAS SPOKEN

(Oct. 18, 2009) The Post & Email has in several articles mentioned that the Supreme Court of the United States has given the definition of what a "natural born citizen" is. Since being a natural born citizen is an objective qualification and requirement of office for the U.S. President (and VP), it is important for all U.S. Citizens to understand what this term means.

How does one “credibly deny?” No matter what Cruz says the Trumpets will call him a liar. If Trump had the same problem you would excuse him saying “a man has needs.”

I understand your point but I maintain that Cruz has shaken the confidence of even his strong supporters lately. I think the reaction from Cruz supporters would be much different if this story had come out 6 or 9 months ago. I think it would have been much more of a defense of "No way Ted Cruz would do that".

Another way to look at it is of which of the following candidates would you be the least surprised was a serial cheater - Carson, Jeb, Santorum, Huckabee, Jindal, Walker or Cruz? Compare your answer now to what it would have been 6 or 9 months ago.

You're right and they have the perfect deal for Ted's ego, too. They can promise him a committee chair or two and that in a year or so when this has blown over, they'll do what so many Cruz fans suggest and promise to nominate him to be a USSC Justice.

Forget the fact they probably would have people already lined up to make sure this and possibly worse got maximum air time were he actually nominated, it would probably placate Ted.

Cruz people going wild at Trump over this, Cruz himself included, is just playing into the hands of the GOPe who have their fingerprints all over it.

Very good point. Cruz jumping on this as a Trump plot is proof that Ted isn't nearly as smart as some claim, he feels cornered and when his emotions are triggered doesn't think rationally, or he's already put his fate in the hands of those wonderful GOPe folks who "joined him".

If it's the last of those possible explanations, his apology to Mr Turtle will come along any day to try and divert his supporters attention away from this.

that they’re holding off on publishing what they’ve found until after Cruz clinches the nomination, ensuring an easy victory for Hillary in November.

That makes no sense at all. The media is overwhelmingly liberal, while practically every poll out there has Hillary beating Trump while Cruz has been advancing on her rapidly. If the average liberal reporter had a credible report on Cruz that would knock him out of the race, they'd be on it like a shot.

I was thinking, this smells of Clinton/Bush... Get Cruz out, go after Trump, put Bush in, Bush picks Rubio as V P & Clinton wins...Bush gets paid handsomely, every body but the American People are happy...

Well, the one whom I'd be least surprised to learn was a serial cheater is one you don't list: Donald J. Trump. And that's because his history in that regard is something that is well-known and something in which he has expressed pride. As for the others, honestly I have no opinion. As far as I'm concerned, they're all equally likely and unlikely to be adulterers. I've never met any of them. I have no idea what they do or don't do behind closed doors.

Did Cruz deny it or merely blamed Trump?

Cruz, Beck and Cruz family sold him as the righteous prophet to save America. If you are gonna put on that mantle, you better darn well be squeaky clean. Nothing Americans hate more than a hypocrite.

I think Mitch McConnell (GOPe) is behind it. After all Cruz did not apologize to Mitch.
