Republicans have assumed this entire elections season that a candidate must have won at least 8 state primaries or caucuses to be eligible for the GOP nomination, but apparently that is not the case and apparently a rule change hasnt technically occurred, but thats not the way it seems.
Even Ted Cruz said just last night that John Kasich wasnt eligible because he hadnt won enough states, so even he was mislead.
Insiders now say rule 40(b) only applied to the republican convention in 2012 and was never intended to be used in future elections.
From Washington Examiner:
Party officials and knowledgeable sources have confirmed over the past few days that Rule 40(b) doesnt exist for the purposes of the upcoming convention. That means at this point, the three candidates left in the race, front-runner Donald Trump, Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas, and Ohio Gov. John Kasich, are all eligible for the nomination, as, possibly, are the Republican contenders who have since suspended their campaigns.
Ben Ginsberg, a Republican elections lawyer who was involved in rule-making process for the 2012 convention, said that Rule 40(b) isnt transferrable to the 2016 convention. Ginsberg explained to the Washington Examiner that what was passed in 2012 applied only to 2012, and that the 2016 convention must pass its own rule determining nomination eligibilty.
RNC Chairman Reince Priebus confirmed Ginsbergs assessment on Sunday during a television interview. There will always be a perception problem if people continue to miss to not explain the process properly. So, the 2012 rules committee writes the rules for the 2012 convention. The 2016 rules committee writes the rules for the 2016 convention, he told CNN.

The GOPe is claiming, despite Rule 42, that there are no rules. That would mean anything goes, even if someone goes into the convention with a majority of the delegates. This is much bigger than Trump or Cruz or Kasich. It's the GOPe claiming that it picks the nominee, not the voters or the delegates.
Correct.
The temporary rules stay in place for 2016 until modified by the Committee.
I believe the next such meeting takes place in April.
Exactly!
The gals love a winner! They are wired genetically to swoon for the top alpha male in the room....it is what it is.
Guys are wired differently, they swoon for the closest gal in the room...lol ... it is what it is.
In politics it is the electorate that has jurisdiction. They are judge and jury..and their verdict is cast at the ballot box.
Trump can appeal the the electorate to vote for him as write-in if he is swindled out of the nomination. Vote Trump as a write-in and vote for no one else on the ticket OR vote straight Dem on the down ticket races.
The nuclear option....
If we are going bust might as well do it in a hurry and bring on secession as soon as possible to separate ourselves from the Marxists.
Let them die in the streets for lack of anyone working and paying taxes to support a hoard of freeloaders.
A sharp knife cuts the quickest, and hurts the least!
Nonsense. If even one rule ever stayed intact across conventions, this is total rot. Unless a rule specifically states a time limit, it rolls over like all the other rules.
However, if they nominate Cruz, he'll take it and presumably his voters will vote for him and split the Republican vote. Boom, President Hillary. This can't happen.
It saddens me to say that if the GOPe tries to push Trump out, Cruz must leave with him and form a coalition ticket as Trump's VP. I have been dismayed by the Trump campaign for some time but am becoming so with Cruz as well. I think his ambition in such a brokered convention would not let him see that Trump's voters will not leave ever and would not unite under the party banner. Where Trump goes, they go. Forever.
Again, President Hillary. I think the GOPe is fine with that.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the following be and hereby are adopted as The Rules of the Republican Party, composed of the rules for the election and government of the Republican National Committee until the next national convention, the rules under which delegates and alternate delegates shall be allotted to the respective states in the next national convention, and the rules under which such delegates and alternate delegates shall be elected and under which contests shall be considered, and the rules of business of this national convention.
Notice the distinction between the NEXT convention and THIS convention?
There is also rule 42.
RULE NO. 42
Temporary RulesUpon the adoption of the report of the Convention Committee on Rules and Order of Business, Rule Nos. 26-42 shall constitute the Standing Rules for this convention and the temporary rules for the next convention.
Rule 42 implies that they might change rule 42, but as of now it is a rule for the next convention and NOT something that was just in place fn the last convention.
How can any campaign plan a long-term strategy if the party says that rules are not really rules if they produce the "wrong" outcome in the end? I thought yesterday the mantra was "rules is rules." Today there are no rules?
The rules did not cause Jeb Bush's campaign to fail, Bush did.

You don’t intend to vote for the Republican nominee?
Trump should have ran 3rd party if he didn’t want to deal with Republican rules.
You are scum if you vote Democrat.
I wish Jim would clear out all the whiny scum that are saying they will vote Democrat. If you can even contemplate voting Democrat you are the enemy.
Be happy when he Don returns Congress to the Dems this Nov. and makes The Deals with Chuck Schumer.
Oh MY so you think that 3 people not voting for Trump will hand the election to Hillary???? There will be MANY people who will NOT vote Trump, however there are MANY more DEMS and indies that CANT WAIT to vote Trump!!! So ALL of you holier than thou folks that think Hillary is better than Trump continue on with your heads in the sand, the rest of us have a country to save!!!
Pray and FIGHT
Those political CROOCKS need “TAR AND FEATHERS” !

Unless Trump starts a third party, it is better to hang on to your seat at the table. Easier to fight them when you are inside their fortress than outside it.
My number 1 priority is to prevent hillary (or any dem) from gaining the oval office.
My number 2 priority is to prevent the GOPe from seating who they want in the oval office.
The RNC have absolutely betrayed us. It's similar to Optimates verses the Plebs during the fall of the Roman Republic except I feel there is a third group pinched in between (wouldn't know what to call them).
The Establishment is like a swarm of heart worms. They are dangerous, and this is our last chance to remove them.
The Establishment’s panic is actually music to my ears.
When you see the other side scramble you know they are scared.
And of course they fight dirty against their alleged side. That is exactly why we want to take them out.
