Cruz tried to hurt Melania to get in front of his own upcoming scandal.
Cruz’s sex scandal allegations have been whispered since at least February. They became publicly discussed and broadcast as early as March 15. Although Ted had a cushy predicted win in Utah, he knew the tabloids were working the scandal story for a quick release.
Someone assisting team~Cruz launched a preemptive strike. They decided that the eve of the Utah primary would be the ripe time for hitting Trump’s wife. They uploaded a racy model GQ photo shoot pic of her from 16 years ago. Then they added their campaign message and sent it to their likely voters.
While it was designed to soften the blow for Ted’s alleged sex scandal stories, he likely did hook thousands of additional Mormon voters. IMO, The initial operation seemed a ‘two-fer’ for team~Cruz. Then he attacks Trump for responding.
Ted knew this was coming. He needs to quit acting like such a sanctimonious pious phoney. TeamCruzer-loser are the ones who scoured the globe for modeling photos of beautiful Melania.

When NE was working on this story, they would likely have contacted each of the alleged mistresses and the Cruz campaign for comment. Cruz therefore would have known it was coming, and if they contracted Pierson, Trump may have known it was coming. Trump stayed away from it, though. When his wife was attacked, he said he would “spill the beans” on Heidi, not on Ted. Presumably, that had to do with her ties to Goldman Sachs or her breakdown on the freeway, or something like that. Maybe even scandalous behavior, we don’t know what Trump had in mind. But this story is something different, something that the press and some insiders apparently have been aware of for a while.
If you know the story is out there, wait until it breaks and use it as a reason to break the pledge to support the nominee.
Cruz is smart, I’ll give him that.
