In recent Facebook post, libertarian radio talk show host Glenn Beck thought that it would be funny to viciously attack Donald Trump’s wife, Melania Trump.

“[If Donald Trump is elected President], the First Lady would be the first to have posed nude in lesbian porno shots,” Beck stated on Facebook.

Somehow, that post of your attempts at psychiatric amateur hour do not inspire much confidence in you as an arbiter of what constitutes perversion, especially when coupled with your chosen screen name.

The tenor of this campaign has degenerated to the status of lower than used whale food but you have achieved the coveted distinction of sleaziest in show.

I support Cruz's candidacy but abhor the character attacks on Melania Trump. Likewise the attacks on Heidi Cruz. The conservatism which I have served since my teenaged years has had no room for character assassination directed at other conservatives. Nor should it have had.

This is not a matter of “moral equivalency.” We should all comply whether The Donald does or not. Behaving in a civilized manner is an obligation of all who are civilized.

"Behaving in a civilized manner is an obligation of all who are civilized."

That is an ideal goal, but it doesn't work if our leaders are not civilized. Gutter Donald does not function in a civilized manner. His obscenities, prejudices, and lies are proof of that. Unfortunately, he has followers, many here on FR who believe in him. The followers seem to only react to uncivilized behavior. Until he changes his tone, it seems the only way to reach his followers is in the manner he chooses.

The most appalling example of that is his treatment of Senator Cruz. Cruz is one of the most principled conservatives to walk the floor of the Senate. Yet, because of Gutter Donald's lies, many think he is unfit to represent us. It must be kept in mind that those who scream "liar-Liar" have no proof that the accused is a liar, they are only projecting their own failings on their opponents. Until that is understood, it is my belief that the tactics of Gutter Donald are the only way to reach his followers. They obviously worked in the first place.

I agree with your assessment that Ted "Cruz is one of the most principled conservatives to walk the floor of the Senate," I disagree that using gutter tactics is the only way to reach The Donald's followers. So far, they have proven utterly unreachable except by The Donald. This is not a result of The Donald's low rent campaign tactics but a result of the outrageous track record of betrayal of the base that characterizes "the GOP Establishment."

The answer to The Donald is to match or exceed his articulation of the grievances of the base but to do so in uncompromising but gentlemanly terms. No GOP candidate can match The Donald as a Mud Wrestler. There is no point in trying.

We have reached a point where Zombies for Trump are actually able to present evidence that Cruz is a GOP-E candidate supported by the likes of Moral Monster Mitt Romney, Light Loafers Graham, JEB!!! Bush, and the moral sepulchre known as the Republican National Committee. This does not bode well and is far more harmful to Cruz's candidacy than is any National Enquirer scandal mongering or Birther fantasies.

If I actually thought that Cruz was anything resembling what his critics claim, I would find better things than politics to engage my attention until after election day. I still have to decide, in the event that Cruz is not the nominee, for whom I shall vote. I know that the RNC will not be making that choice for me. If it tries and nominates someone other than Cruz or Trump, I expect to vote third party again. Otherwise, we lose even the power of the vote.

I no more favor Trump than do you but, having lived through the national New Left hysteria of the late 1960s and 1970s as a student with my own principles intact, I am not giving them up in service to the GOP-E and Muffy's trust fund.

I am also not about to give up the standards of decency and civility that my parents and teachers and priests and nuns instilled in me as I was growing up. I wish that you and others would join me in that commitment. This Trump fever is not forever. It will pass sooner or later. Trump is older than I am and that is saying something.

How much damage Trumpism will cause to our movement and our nation and our civilization remains to be seen. We need not add damage of our own as an expression of our frustration with the willingness of so many to accept The Donald's low rent behavior in the effort to support something as obviously transitory as The Donald.

I am not disrespecting you. I am simply asking you to respect yourself enough to not let The Donald drag you into his gutter.

I appreciate your taking the time to detail such an honest and forthright description of your position. I, too, will hold my nose and vote for Trump if he's the one nominated. I'm even older than you, and even a bit older than Trump. I'm still working, partly because I lost over a million bucks in someone else's bankruptcy. So you can see how I feel about bankruptcies. The company I work for manufactures its products solely in the US, and exports half of its sales to China. If Trump's tariffs are implemented, China will retaliate, and we will loose all of our China sales to our only global competitor which is in Germany. 50 people will loose their jobs. So you see how I feel about Trump's global trade policies.

So I have several personal reasons why I think Trump is not good for the US.

Trump supporters do not respond to logic. They don't respond to facts. Whatever Trump says is repeated in the press, and his supporters believe it more than Moses bring it down on stone tablets from the mountain top. But they represent only a fraction of the Republican base, and even less of total voters. If Trump is nominated the media will turn on him just like they did McCain. They have enough ammunition to absolutely fry him. And they will. His juvenile antics, enmity from world leaders, incoherent ramblings, and inability to articulate policy positions will turn even more against him. Hello President Hillary. And no bellowing "liar, liar" will help. Her voters already know she's a liar.

So I'm trying a different tactic with "Gutter Donald". So far no one has challenged the accuracy of the name, and maybe some will actually think about it.
