When the Ford Motor Co. decided to move jobs south to Mexico so that it could pay its workers less, billionaire businessman Donald Trump was furious. He made trade inequalities and Ford’s betrayal of American workers a central issue of his campaign.

And, without his even being in the Oval Office, it worked.

In an interview with CNBC, Ford CEO Mark Fields said that the automaker would be “here to stay.” He also said he had outlined his company’s plans in a letter to Trump.

i’d love to see the media tried for treason.

yet it is no secret what Obama is and how he has disgraced us over the years. yet he won again.

those are the Americans I fear.

we can blame ted Kennedy’s immigration overhaul 50 years ago to an extent. I hope he and pop are burning in hell.

But European descent is still the majority. No excuse for those people.

So you think it’s good for the President to be making the decisions on how to run a company like Ford?

You idiot. When it comes to moving jobs out of America and then still sell the cars to Americans that do not have the money because of no job, what the hell is the matter with you.

The solution is not to bully them into doing something that is uneconomic but rather to create policy that makes it economical for them to do business in the US. Taking your logic just a little further, if this is such a good thing then why make Trump work so hard at it? Why not simply pass a law that no company can open a factory overseas without first getting the President to approve? Of course we have a word for that: Socialism.

“Trump saving American jobs and he is not even President yet.”

What I want to see is Trump looking straight at Trump and saying to Trump:

“Let me give you the bad news. Every neck tie that comes across the border, we’re going to charge you a 35 percent tax. OK? And that tax is going to be paid simultaneously with the transaction, and that’s it.”

We need more neck ties made in America and fewer made by American companies using sweat shop labor in Red China.

Can I hear an “Amen”?

Please read how Obama's man ran GM while they were in bankruptcy. Look up Obama' auto task force.

The US taxpayers lost over $10 billion.

Was George Washington telling American companies what to when he signed the Tariff Act of 1789?

Donald Trump isn't a government official, though I disagree, government officials are free to chastise corporations. Verbally. Nothing wrong with naming companies moving production overseas.

I get that Trump isn't a government official. The sentiment in the thread seemed to be "look, not even President yet and already influencing businesses".

I'm no more comfortable with a President Trump badmouthing Ford motor company to make them look bad for trying to escape oppressive business conditions than I am with President Obama badmouthing American corporations and saying the CEOs earn too much money.

It's none of the President's business how a corporation runs their corporation as long as it's within the law.

Reagan was famous for using the ‘bully pulpit”. By doing this he was able to bypass a hostile congress and speak directly to the American people. Was he a socialist?

I’m sure we will be told that Cruz has been in negotiations with Ford management since before could even spell Ford, or something. /s

Every poll is bought and paid for by people who want Hillary to be president and will spend millions to make it happen.
These are the same people that said Trump wIll drop out before the primaries! Trump can’t win a single primary! Peak Trump!

I tend to ignore and avoid people who lie to me all damn day.

I have been on Free Republic for 16 years and the thing I don’t understand is how many Freepers say the media lies but in reality believe every word as if it was Gospel. Knock it off!

“Ford ever said they were leaving America, they were just expanding non-American facilities.”

Yeah, like there’s a “big market” for Ford in Beanerland! Those cars produced in Mexico are destined for the US Market! In a way, you have to feel sorry for Ford and the other two of the Big Three. Thanks to their half-century of capitulating to the UAW, they’ve build a a pension/direct labor situation that makes them non-competitive against the Asian manufacturers (who by the way bring in their expensive parts like drive train components from their home countries).
Perhaps Trump would start tariffing the “foreign content” from the Asian and European mfrs as a first step toward leveling the playing field.
