I think the point is not that he should be sued for royalties, but that he passed off a line looking for credit for being clever and tough.

Good grief, "out of your league" is a cliche. We would say that regarding certain gals in high school and college when Michael Douglas was still doing hospital flicks.

When I ran for state rep in CT in '96, I responded to a question of "How I would expand Route 10" with an off-the-cuff "I wouldn't, because if you build it, they will come." obviously citing a movie I hadn't even seen (Field of Dreams), and gave no attribution. I guess I'm a plagiarist. Sheesh!

Well if a great majority of people would recognize it as a conscious use of a cliche, then perhaps Ted is out of touch. Of course perhaps I am ... but that judgment doesn't much matter when people are pulling voting levers.

But I'll grant him the conscious use of cliche if you say among some it would be obvious, and maybe he made the mistake of thinking everyone would know it, that all would recognize it. What I won't grant him is that he had nothing to do with the ad. I don't hate Cruz. But I am picking up a lot - a lot - that gives me the willies about him. Not like I'm scared of him ... just that I don't think he's who he says he is. I'm beginning to suspect he isn't really anybody.

Just watched it. Disagree. He tried to pass the whole line off as his own 'if you're gonna get in a character .... way out of his league.' That wasn't a nod to a cliche.

It's also not from his heart. This is all scripted for him, just as Liz's tweets were.

Don't buy it!
