Hillary Clinton would crush Donald Trump in a hypothetical general election match-up, a new national survey found.

According to a Bloomberg Politics poll released Wednesday, Clinton leads Trump 54 percent to 36 percent in a contest between the two front-runners.

Also troubling for Trump – nationally, only 29 percent of likely general election voters have a favorable view of him, compared to 68 percent who view him negatively.

Trump’s favorability rating is at an all-time low in the survey, while his negative rating has gone up 13 points since November and hit a new high.

Imagine: Hillary “The First Woman President” Clinton vs. Donald “Mr. Rude and Crude” Trump. How would that play out? Women would vote for Hillary over Trump by the biggest margin ever. The Gender Gap would become the Gender Grand Canyon. Donny would get his passionate followers, to be sure—he could shoot someone in the middle of Fifth Avenue and not lose his voters. But Trump would also turn out record numbers eager to vote against him. And millions of conservatives would not be too thrilled to vote for the non-con Trump, who has alienated and insulted conservatives along the way.

National surveys are worthless.

What are the state-by-state match ups?

You and I are completely aligned on the problem. We differ greatly on the solution.

Comparisons to the 1980 Reagan election are about as valid as comparing the current U.S. election to one in Paraguay or Estonia. USA 1980 and USA 2016 are demographically completely different countries. There are no longer enough white voters (the only real swing voters) to propel the big change Reagan enjoyed.

Also Reagan was a likable guy who folks warmed to as they got to know him. Trump is no such person.

The final Jeopardy answer is: Mondale, McGovern, Trump, Landon.

Q: What four Presidential candidates suffered the biggest losses?

This fake “poll” is a hilarious plant to spur the #NeverTrump jihadists on.

“This is absolute nonsense. Donald will crush her. He will not shy from showing what a failure she has been, and would surely continue to be, vs his many enormous accomplishments.”

I agree with you. My assessment too. Cruz, like McCain and Romney before him, would be too “high-minded” to criticize Hillary and tell people the truth.

Remember McCain saying that there is no need to fear Obama.

If they were trying to get Trump out they wouldn’t have given him what is estimated to be over $2 billion in free air time.

The liberal MSM is picking the republican candidate again and you don’t even know it.

If they actually wanted Trump out they would simply cut off his free coverage and make him pay to get his message out like Cruz has to.

“USA 1980 and USA 2016 are demographically completely different countries.”

Yes, but several of the factors that were in place during the Reagan election are in place again, including fear for national security, a sense of wanting to rekindle national pride after getting embarrassed (e.g. Iran taking Americans as hostages), and a prolonged period of economic malaise.

The poll was 1 thousand adults 18 and older. Included a bunch of negative statements about Trump and ask of it influences them.... no doubt before they ask them whom they supported. And Selzer, who does the poll, is into focus groups and company PR. It’s BS. Vote. Give people a choice. What do they want... a do over. We are almost done making a choice. All the votes already placed matter. Trump is the only one who can win the primary outright and have his name in nomination. Even crap would say Cruz is crap.

These phony polls are a dime a dozen these days. The elites are pulling all the levers available to them in order to cripple Trump.

Yeah, if this is true the Dems should be doing the happy dance. Why waste their time protesting Trump events?

That’s why I am so, so deeply suspicious of these “polls” ... Most importantly, WHO are they talking to, and HOW MANY are “they” projecting to actually vote?

Nobody is enthusiastic about voting for Hillary. Most especially, the 36%+ of the democrats who strongly support Sanders.

I don’t buy it. I was at the Trump Rally in Tucson. I arrived early and left until the police ordered all the protestors off the premise.

There were more protesters at the Trump Rally than there were supporters at hillary’s rally in Tucson the same day. Hillary wasn’t there but Bill and Gabby Giffords and her husband the astronaut spoke.

And the Trump supporters were enthusiastic and loud. If you saw the hillary rally, her supporters were quiet and subdued in comparison.

hillary crushing Trump doesn’t make sense from my POV.

Polls this far out before the general election are meaningless.

What did the polls say a few months ago about Jeb Bush winning the GOP nomination and Trump winning it?

And THAT is the biggest reason Hillary fears Trump. He is the only one who would dare attack the “Queen”

"USA 1980 and USA 2016 are demographically completely different countries. There are no longer enough white voters (the only real swing voters) to propel the big change Reagan enjoyed."

This is what we are missing in the electability argument. The electoral demographics of the 47% takers and black woman identity voters are just as strong in 2016 as they were in 2008 and 2012. We are mad as hell and declare we won't take it anymore, but is there enough of us to make an election difference? Polls should not be dismissed out of hand just to fit our beliefs.
