Meet Curly Haugland, former chairman of the North Dakota Republican party and current Republican national committeeman. Haugland is one of just 112 delegates who will arrive unbound to this summers Republican convention in Cleveland, free to cast a vote for any candidate he chooses on a first ballot because North Dakota does not hold a primary or caucus. That makes him a particularly valuable asset to the still-dueling presidential campaigns.
Haugland, a Bismarck businessman and a member of the powerful RNC committee that will set the rules governing this years convention, says voters may be in for a rude awakening when they learn that the votes cast by delegates on the floor of the convention rather than those cast in primaries and caucuses actually determine the Republican nominee. The results on Fox are just a participation ribbon, he says. Thats true: Regardless of who wins each states nominating contest, a candidate does not become the partys standard-bearer until he receives a majority of the delegate vote on the convention floor.
The behind-the-scenes efforts by presidential candidates to win the allegiance of delegates such as Haugland are now attracting as much press coverage as the campaign itself. But those privy to the internal workings of the RNC and the delegate-selection process many of whom agreed to speak on background to preserve their relationships with the candidates say that the task of wooing individual delegates is probably too complex for an active presidential campaign to successfully manage, and that its unlikely to matter much. Thats because the delegates, who are elected through processes dictated by state-party bureaucracies, are themselves likely to be long-time Republican insiders more partial to Cruz than Trump.

....”Its strange to me that FR seems down on Cruz”.....
More than just strange....it’s actually a revolt against the government which Trump clearly leads a rebellion. It doesn’t matter more than just that to his supporters. So of course they are bent on continuing to support him regardless of what sort of President he would be....they don’t care as long as he gives them the voice of rebellion they desire foremost.
Please just don’t fill all available space between now and the convention with shite postings like this. Nobody knows what will happen, nobody can predict it, and even intellectual masturbation gets old.
And a wall. You guys always forget the Wall.
THE main reason Trump is leading.
It ‘s the hysterical, bed wetting anti-Trumpers that are trying to destroy the GOP. And Ted Cruz has thrown in completely with them to advance his career. How pathetic is that?
Because the establishment backs him and they will do some dirty delegate back room deals.
....”Teb! has joined the Cartel he once railed against”.....
No he hasn’t....they are joining him only to prevent Trump from winning. Cruz is just accepting the endorsements because that is what is done close to the finish line. .....even Trump is attempting to gain their support.
Trumpfolx honestly believe the nom should have been handed to their guy after SC and any competition is nasty, abnormal, unfair and conspiratorial. They threaten to stay home at 10X the rate of Cruz people. I hope Cruz continues requesting a 1-on-1 debate, it drives them right over the edge.
“Its strange to me that FR seems down on Cruz.”
Because we got to know him and he’s not exactly a likable person and he’s a liar.
“Its strange to me that FR seems down on Cruz. He has very good conservative credentials.”
Name one conservative thing that Ted has accomplished since going to Washington. Don’t bother wracking your brain because there aren’t any.
What you do have, are tens of thousands of people around the country parroting the sales hype that Ted’s a ‘consistent conservative’, with zero hard evidence to back it up.
When Ted had a chance to prove himself, he voted to push through ObamaTrade and the Corker amendment, which are two of the most anti-American measures we’ve seen in years.
You have to put that in perspective, how many of those delegates represent Cruz, Rubio, Christie, Bush, Kasich, etc. like it or not, the only two candidates that have a shot are Trump and Cruz. We still have the a lot of Big states left plus the Northeast primaries. Trump will be over 1000 delegates by the time this is done. Anyone who thinks the Republican Party can ignore the voters that gave Trump those delegates is in for a very rude awakening.
Trump is hardly afraid to debate cruz. He’s withstood the fire from 17 candidates, the rats, the media, tens of millions in attack ads, and last but not least, his own party. They’ve thrown everything but the kitchen sink at him and he’s still standing.
To say that shows ignorance of his history in Washington.....it’s well documented he’s fought against both sides of the aisle and prevented the passage of many otherwise laws and events that we didn’t want.
So NO, Cruz has never been a status quo politician....he’s running for the Primary election and that game is being played in a very uneven playing field from the get go with hurdles to move or go over none imagined possible.
Lyin Ryans speech today confirmed he is running for POTUS on 2nd ballot.
The fix is in.
Despicable Traitors!!!
Trump is “avoiding” debate with Cruz...that’s pretty obvious. I don’t think he’s afraid to debate Cruz, he just knows he’ll be up against one of the best and it won’t look good for him if he’s not well prepared....and preparation is a difficult thing for someone who is still using political training wheels.
Such a beta-male way to win a nomination.
You're the one who is saying that, if Trump isn't nominated, Trump supporters will walk.
Don’t be silly...the Gop members are all going to endorse one or the other along the way......that’s the game. Most will support someone along the way or wait to closer to convention.
