In the wake of the horrific Islamic terror attack in Brussels, Belgium that claimed the lives of 30 people, Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz made the point that now is not the time to abandon NATO, despite comments to that effect made by Donald Trump reported just yesterday.
Brussels is where NATO is headquartered, and is also significant for being the capital of the European Union. Without NATO, Europe will be left virtually defenseless against Russian military aggression.
The Washington Post delved into Donald Trump’s “unabashedly noninterventionist” foreign policy strategy yesterday. Trump questioned the wisdom of U.S. involvement in NATO, which he said “may need to be significantly diminished in the coming years, breaking with nearly seven decades of consensus in Washington.”
Trump was quoted as saying,
“NATO is costing us a fortune, and yes, were protecting Europe with NATO, but were spending a lot of money.”
Not surprisingly, Vladimir Putin also wants NATO to go away.
Just last month, the U.K.-based Telegraph reported that events in Syria pose “a direct threat to European security, combining the dangers of terrorism with the risk of direct conflict between Nato and Russia.”
In the wake of the attacks in Brussels, Ted Cruz said in part:
“Donald Trump is wrong that America should withdraw from the world and abandon our allies. Donald Trump is wrong that American should retreat from Europe, retreat from NATO, hand Putin a major victory and while he’s at it hand ISIS a major victory.”
Trumpsters, of course, took Cruz’s comments as a personal insult to Trump, saying that Cruz “blamed” Trump for the Islamic terror attack in Brussels.
Pro-Putin conspiracy theorists InfoWars posted a video quoting Cruz saying “It is striking that the day after Donald Trump called for weakening NATO, withdrawing from NATO, we see Brussels, where NATO is headquartered, the subject of a radical Islamic terror attack.”
The video left out the rest of Cruz’s quote stating that Trump is “wrong that American should retreat from Europe, retreat from NATO, hand Putin a major victory and while he’s at it hand ISIS a major victory.”
Watch:
Our friend “sundance” from the Conservative Tree House who has previously promoted demonstrably fake stories about Ted Cruz wrote in an article called “A New Low Senator Ted Cruz Blames Donald Trump for Brussels Terrorist Attacks (video) ” that Cruz had “the unbelievable audacity to rush to the microphones and blame presidential candidate Donald Trump for the Brussels terrorist attacks earlier today.” Sundance continued desperately:
“Dont try to obfuscate his words and claim he didnt, its right there in the video.”
Sundance, of course, used Alex Jones’ cherry picked video.
Clash Daily also repeated the lie, declaring that Ted Cruz “blamed Donald Trump instead [of Islamic terrorists]” for the Brussels terror attack.
The lie is being reported as fact all over social media. Perhaps engaged readers can take the time to respond to some of those repeating the lie with this article.

CNN
23 hours ago - Texas Sen. Ted Cruz on Tuesday slammed his GOP presidential rival Donald Trump in the wake of the terrorist attacks in Brussels for calling for ...
Yes he did, and this isn’t from Tree House, this is from CNN and I have seen you post CNN on many occasions...
So?
What does this have to do with Trump saying Europe needs to shoulder more of the cost, which is what Trump said, and what Cruz said was him wanting to abandon NATO.
Does Cruz support that or not?
If you can’t understand what Cruz said, I’m afraid I can’t help you. It’s clear enough to most people who listen to it.
You can’t get away with the “said in part...”
Cruz said this as well as what is in this article:
“It is striking that the day after Donald Trump called for weakening NATO, withdrawing from NATO, we see Brussels, where NATO is headquartered, the subject of a radical Islamic terror attack,”
He didn’t directly blame Trump for the attack, but he implied a connection which doesn’t exist.
So this article shows Cruz distorting what Trump said, and then distorts what Cruz said about a connection between Trump and the attack.
Since you’ve posted this exact same article before, and have gotten the same response, you should know better, but obviously don’t care about the truth, just pushing a false narrative.
So you’re okay with the numerous lies of Trump?

I’m tired of politics and politicians...we the people should be calling the shots. My goodness, simply seek the truth
No Lawyer Speak!
So true. Tired of the daily garbage slung around. Go Cruz!
Yeah, every time Ted opens his mouth, he drives away more voters. Some of the goofy statements he and Beck come out with are tough to take seriously.
You are OK with the mouthpiece of BLM, Ayers, NATO/HOBOs and the Bush machine.
Most people are not.
It’s too bad. I used to really enjoy the Conservative Treehouse. It has a long history of going off the deep end and speculating as much as reporting, but it was lively and interesting, and, for the most part, self-correcting. Although there was some indication that success was going to Sundance’s head — their treatment of the Trayvon Martin case was excellent, and they did some good work on the Michal Brown case, but with the Jessica Chambers case I got uncomfortable with some of Sundance’s statements that “This person is clearly involved and evil.”
It’s a minor switch — from “here’s the evidence and my suspicions” to “here’s what happened” — but to me it’s an important change, and not one I was happy about. It shows a lack of humility that can be dangerous.
I don’t think the Conservative Treehouse crew has always lied about stuff — I’m not even convinced Sundance is deliberately lying now — but when it comes to Trump, Sundance has lost touch with reality and he cannot see the evidence right in front of his nose.
What kills me is the number of older people who are Trump fans. I have always kind of gotten a kick out of Trump, so although I’ve never gotten serious enough to read a book about him or anything, I’ve read a lot of articles over the years, and I remember the time he got the analyst fired because he didn’t like that the guy said his Casino would lose money as soon as money hit (which it did). I remember the billboard lady, who only got paid because she faked Trump out. I remember the neighbors he tried to drive away, then walled off and tried to bill for the fence.
The fact that none of these are in the news tells me that the media is holding back, but that won’t be the case if Trump becomes the Republican Presidential candidate. Trump has a long history of skating just this side of the law — the media knows very well how to make use of that kind of stuff if so inclined. The fact that they haven’t done it thus far means either that they figure Trump is “one of them”, in which case he’s not the outsider his fans think he is, or they’re just holding back until he wins the primary.
agree 100% the trump slaves on FR sound more and more like the liberal slaves on democrat sites. it is getting harder and harder to support this screed.
