Ted Cruz attacked Donald Trump’s character for threatening his wife on Tuesday and blamed his opponent's attack on “a very bad night” in Utah.
“If Donald wants to get in a character fight he's better off sticking with me, because Heidi is way out of his league,” Cruz said on CNN’s “New Day,” responding to a late-night tweet from Trump warning, "Be careful, Lyin' Ted, or I will spill the beans on your wife!”
The attack reveals a lot about Trump's character, Cruz said. "That should be beneath Donald," he said. "The reason he's doing that is because he had a very bad night last night. He got clobbered in Utah."
Trump’s tweet — which began with “Lyin' Ted Cruz just used a picture of Melania from a G.Q. shoot in his ad" — is an apparent reference to an online ad by anti-Trump super PAC Make America Awesome, which used a photo of Trump’s wife Melania posing nude in British GQ in 2000 in an attempt to sway conservative Mormon voters.
Cruz responded via Twitter shortly after: "Pic of your wife not from us. Donald, if you try to attack Heidi, you're more of a coward than I thought. #classless.”
On CNN, host Chris Cuomo asked the Texas senator if engaging with Trump was a good idea.
"The tweet he was unhappy about was not even a super PAC supporting me. It is an independent group. I don’t know them,” Cruz said. "When Donald gets scared, when he gets angry, when he gets threatened ... So last night Donald threatened my wife, he went directly after my wife."
Cruz also ratcheted up his pressure on John Kasich, who fared poorly in Tuesday's contests, to get out of the race, repeatedly calling the Ohio governor a “spoiler.”

That’s all a matter of opinion.
I know that in Michigan the polls said Sanders was down 20 points to Clinton. He won by five.
Yesterday, the polls said Cruz had 50% in Utah. He ended up with something like 69%.
I’m looking more at their strengths, and I like Trump’s better than Cruz’s. I will support Cruz, though, if he’s the nominee. I doubt he will be. I listened to one of the talking heads say on TV last night, CNN I believe, that if it goes to a 2nd vote at the convention that neither Cruz nor Trump will be the nominee.
I tend to agree with that.
Looks like the Cruznadians have received their talking points from Uniparty headquarters and are dutifully defending the sewer-level attacks of dishonorable team ted.
I want the truth about Heidi Cruz to come out. She is part of the package. Let’s hear too about how hot Melania is and look at her racy pics I’m down with that!
Cruz NEEDS to be vetted and he hasn’t yet, since he insists on staying in this race to help the Romney/Bush cabal. Cruz would normally be viciously vetted by the Left but they are not scared of him so they have joined the GOPe in focusing solely on Trump.
I want to hear about:
Who or what drove Heidi to depression and near suicide;
Ted’s associations with wacko pastors who call for the killing of gays;
Ted’s partying and hooking up with whores;
Ted and Heidi’s big money ties and lies about their funding;
Etc etc.
Let’s vet this sleazeball and put his lying lawyerly ass on the witness stand for once! Trump has held up to the endless fire from Right and Left it’s Ted’s turn to step out of the foxhole he hides in.
Trump can spill same beans. Heidi had mental issues. suicidal, crazy, Goldman Sac, ex-lovers etc etc. Now all fair game.
Trump is decent man he will not do that, plus he had no PACs to hide. Cruz is low life nasty sub human.
Last month, Cruz tweet same picture and later deleted. Don’t tell me Cruz is innocent.

This is modern day presidential politics and Cruz is playing the game to win. It's why I won't vote for him now even if he is the nominee.
His campaign is getting sleazier by the hour. The RNC and Cruz can go F*** themselves I am done. I register Independent next election.

That’s good to know. IMHO you’re one of the rare Trump supporters that would do that.
I fear that most Trump supporters will sit home and pout if he doesn’t get the nod...much the dame way that the Ron Paul cultists did.
Same can’t be said of the Cruz supporters. We’ll hold our nost...again...and vote for the candidate that’s been forced on us because in the end President Sanders or President Rodham-Clinton is worse.
And frankly...I don’t want Hillary’s signature on my retirement paperwork in two years.
Nothing at all.
And, in a more crowded field, more than twice that many voted for Cruz. No problem.

Cruz has a record of tailoring specific attacks/lies/ dirty tricks relative to the state he is trying to win. We know lies and smears aren’t beneath him or without his knowledge.

To be clear, I'll be supporting the destruction of Hillary in the general election. Assuming Trump is the nom, he's the one who will have my vote. I'm not one of those "take the ball and go home" types. Any GOPer on the slate is far superior to Her Infernal Malevolence.
They're opposing Trump. Cruz just happens to be the last candidate standing in the primary. And no.. he did not approve of the smear. Does Trump disavow the lie that the ad came from Cruz' campaign?
