Inside Political Baseball – Visible Signs of Cruz Campaign Strain…
The Conservative Treehouse ^ | 3/19/2016 | Sundance

At first glance this picture from Fox13 promoting the Senator Ted Cruz campaign speech in Provo, Utah, might seem innocuous, but it’s not. Along with the campaign promotional swag being handed out to the rallying supporters, those with a keen insight into how modern 2016 presidential campaigns operate will identify something most observers miss.

Look closely at the campaign signage. Notice the absence of the “TrusTED” etc. backdrop and campaign graphic material; instead being replaced by “Keep The Promise” graphics in the backdrop and “Choose Cruz” handout placards.

What you’re seeing there is a (Provo, Utah) campaign event financed exclusively by the Super-PAC Keep the Promise (KtP), and not the Ted Cruz for President campaign.

Simply put, this is the first identifier of an official campaign that is quickly running out of money (burn rate, exceeding receipts), and needs to rely on Super-PAC big donor, corporate sponsorship, to keep itself afloat.

[This also explains the recruitment of the Jeb Bush financial team, and Romney’s Wall Street approvals]

The grassroots donors, the ordinary citizen, are no longer providing enough financial support strong enough to finance the candidates’ ongoing extended campaign need. Remember when we discussed “Proselytizing as an electoral strategy“? This was one of the underlying issues when focusing exclusively on a very narrow segment of the electorate.

The official Cruz campaign has already run afoul of the FEC rules on campaign contributions because they have a small donor pool which is giving excess contributions beyond the maximum $2,400 allowable. They have been warned to return the funds or be in violation of Federal Election Commission campaign finance rules -

"if only"

A problem I see is that the term "Conservative" has be come "Sheep's Clothing".

How many members of congress have run and won touting their conservative bona fides only to do things once in office that completely confound the conservative peanut gallery?

This election has become a big game of "Who do you trust?" (Not that they're not all really that)

And convoluted answers about things like "Poison pills" don't help. It was Ted's "Dingle-Norwood" moment and his chief alibi on that went to Donald.

“The 2,400 dollar contribution limit is not accurate, its 2,700 dollars in the primary cycle.”

yeah, you said that a couple of times. $2,400 was the original limit; every few years it gets bumped up a little: the index is bumped up for inflation.

“Didn’t this used to be a conservative site where most members believed that “if only” the Republicans would nominate a true conservative that we would sweep the next election?”

You mean “true conservatives” like Bush, Mccain and Romney? That’s covered a lot of years and I can’t imagine many here thinking they were “true conservatives”.

Besides, didn’t we just elect a bunch of self-declared “true conservatives” to Congress in the past four years?

After all, so many of us still remember how the heroic “true conservatives” in Congress stood up to Obama and stopped his agenda dead in its tracks by passing a budget that eviscerated his illegal immigration policies, eliminated the energy-destroying EPA, eliminated the Marxist propaganda Education Department, eliminated the job-destroying Labor Department, eliminated the racist Civil Rights Commission, defunded the FCC until they give back control of the Internet to private industry, defunded Obamacare, defunded the Planned Parenthood slaughter, defunded enforcement of 99% of Obama”s regulations and Executive Orders. It was a great day for America when that happened, when “true conservatives” stopped Obama’s agenda cold.

Given all of these amazing accomplishments by the “true conservatives”, it’s no wonder that the only thing that Freepers and rank-and-file Republicans everywhere care about is getting some more of them elected so that they can continue applying their “true conservatives” principles to such good effect.

You’re blaming conservatism for our problems.

Conservatism isn’t the problem. It’s the refusal of elected officials to apply it.

Free markets and limited government work

I’m blaming all of those who CLAIM to be “true conservatives”, and then when they actually get elected to Congress they suddenly stab the voters in the back within weeks, like nearly ALL the Tea Party candidates did.

My point is, I trust no one who labels themselves as a “true conservative”: if you have to actually say it, then you’re probably not.

Yes. This is a huge issue and I agree with you. I don’t know what Washington DC does to people but it does weird things to them once they get there.

Having said that, what evidence do we have that a President Trump won’t succumb to the same thing?

Aside from blackmail, the main reason elected officials sell out is for LARGE campaign “donations” via bundlers and PACs from those buying favors. Trump is taking no such “donations”.

For now. We’ll see how long that lasts after he gets the nomination.

“what have you been smoking?”

Austinite, huh?

There’s a very big difference between what a person says, and what they do. The most well respected among us, are those whose words match their deeds.

Ted Cruz is one whose words come nowhere close to his actual deeds. He’s done nothing to earn his branding as a ‘consistent conservative’, except talk a good game.

You’d already know this, if you looked instead of listened.

“Cruz is the only conservative in this race”

You can tell a lie a million times, but it will still be a lie.

Ted Cruz is no conservative.

And, he is not really in the race. He is the spoiler. The rat who will put the nomination back in the hands of Paul Ryan and the GOPe.

His “campaign” is a fraud. He has no chance of the nomination.

I don’t think you understood the thrust of my post. For years FR seemed to be dominated by folks who were against the so-called Rinos. They wanted a true conservative to get a chance—and railed against Romnney, MCCain and all the GOP leadership in Congress.

There was always the clamor for a conservative candidate.

What’s surprising is the switch to Trump who hasn’t been known as a conservative until his run for the Presidency.

Maybe you have not noticed that his conservative rating is one of the highest if not the highest. Trump has no rating at all and words do not get the job done.

I’ve got my own eyeballs, friend. I don’t need some ratings outfit to tell me how to judge any politician.

Besides Ted’s filibuster of Obamacare, which was admirable, he hasn’t DONE one conservative thing during his short time in Congress.

Spare me all the hype about his ‘conservatism’. There’s no hard evidence for it.

That "principled conservative" lying lawyer Teddy Bare is "For Sale" to anybody with dollars. He represented a COMMUNIST Chinese company against an American one, and defended Pfizer against a group of hospitals who accused the drug company of overcharging. He lost both of those and more, he lost his credibility as being "principled. He is just another slimy lawyer!
