Tipping today is nothing more than paying a wage that an employer does not wish to pay for economic reasons. That said, I tip well and frankly for good service I tip extraordinarily well. What is aggravating me lately is the plethora of tip jars showing up at just about every establishment that has a cash register. Soon there will be one attached to the gasoline dispenser at the gas station.

This article is there to incite two trendy matters: the first is the “need” for expanded equal rights, more appropriately should be called extra rights. The second is the minimum wage expansions. The first item should be DOA. The second is dispensed with the following question: what is a fair minimum wage in your eyes? When you get an answer, simply ask why not twice that?

I also tip well. I have never waited tables, but have many children of friends who have. They work hard, deal with difficult people, and still have to serve them. I don’t forget that when at a restaurant.

I hate the tip jars, also. We know several winery owners on our local winery trail. You know how half the population gets free stuff? Well, they treat things like wine tasting the same way. Some people use places like that for freebies and then don’t purchase anything. I’ve always tipped the person guiding the tasting, even before tip jars. Many don’t. Our winery trail introduced tip jars and started charging for tastings unless you make a purchase. Almost half of our population is the reason why we can’t have nice things.

I tip very well, if the service is at least average. I don’t put myself in a tipping situation very often. In OH there’s no tip on take out. If you eat in the tip is 8%. It’s a crazy situation when folks are getting steak dinners to go because tip + tax saved is over 25%!
