The idea of 'ideological purity' misses the mark, although it makes a good rhetorical cudgel. Trump and Cruz have completely different political philosophies.

For me, Cruz represents the only viable alternative.

Now I will trade a marxist authoritarian for a capitalist one any day, but I'd rather than either of those I'd prefer a leader that recognizes the proper traditional role of government in this country.

“Trump and Cruz have completely different political philosophies.”

We likely disagree about Trump and Cruz’s political philosophies. I personally don’t think Ted Cruz believes much of anything, besides whatever helps him to forward his career in government. That’s just my observation, having watched him during this election.

Trump, on the other hand, appears to me to be the practical sort, who’s bent on implementing the solutions to our nation’s most existential problems that most Americans agree with. He’s been proposing some of those solutions since the 1980s. Some, more recently, but I must say that I find it hard to criticize any of them.

Trump is credible on these things because he came out with his proposals when it was politically unpopular and dangerous to do so. Ted echoed with similar policies only after Trump had cleared the way. In my view, only one of those men showed real courage and leadership when it mattered.
