John Boehner backs Paul Ryan for president, calls Ted Cruz ‘Lucifer’
The Washington Times ^ | Mar 16, 2016 | Kellen Howell

Former House Speaker John A. Boehner said current Speaker Paul D. Ryan should be the Republican nominee for president if the party fails to chose a candidate on the first ballot at its national convention this summer in Cleveland.

SNIP

Mr. Boehner, who stepped down from the speakership last fall, has long whispered to friends that he thinks Mr. Ryan could be the savior of the Republican Party. He told the crowd Wednesday that “anybody can be nominated” at the Republican National Convention.

SNIP

During the same question-and-answer session in Florida, Mr. Boehner referred to Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas, another Republican presidential candidate, as “Lucifer.”

[Exactly. They are inflating Cruz to pop his balloon at the convention. They hate the guy.]

They are not inflating Cruz. They’ve done everything they could to destory Cruz and take him put of the running. The reason they did not go after a Trump early on was because they wanted him to take out a Cruz. It has all backfired on them. The people chose to carry Cruz and Trump as the establishment fought them the entire way. The establishment is still fighting it. I think they prefer Trump over Cruz though.

I know. I know. But my primary interest in my political party is the furthering of my political point of view. I do not give two and a half squats about their power. It would be like an executive at McDonald’s caring about his pension benefits, and letting the quality of the food go to hell (...oh, wait). Don’t listen to your base at your peril.

I don't disagree, we must oppose the establishment's attempts to hijack the nomination, but unfortunately we're all on the same sinking ship! Can you or I even imagine how much destruction a Sanders administration would do, or how much MORE establishment-controlled (and foreign-controlled) our country would be under Hillary?

If we don't ultimately get behind a candidate who can win, we all lose. I don't care about the establishment's ego either. They see both Cruz and Trump as threats to their power. They are going to have to deal with that fact. Can we convince them to get behind either one? I doubt it. The best we can hope for is half-hearted support for either Trump or Cruz in the general.

Both. The rounds that you mentioned are not mutually exclusive.

Cruz is eligible for that, as far as I know.

The founders' intent was to assure fidelity to the constitution, and to prevent the rise of a usurper. Even if his parents were born in Uganda and were related to Idi Amin, and he was born in the Soviet Union, and was relatived to Lenin, Cruz passes the test with flying colors.

We already had a recent usurper, and few outside of Sheriff Joe seemed to give a damn about his eligibility, including here at FR.

The show Lucifer reminds me more than vaguely of Mark Twain's _Letters_From_The_Earth_ which has pretty much the same premise; that Lucifer gets bored running hell and decides to take an earthly vacation. Wiki follows:

Letters from the Earth is a posthumously published work of celebrated American author Mark Twain (1835–1910). It comprises essays written during a difficult time in Twain's life (1904-09), when he was deeply in debt and had recently lost his wife and one of his daughters. The content concerns morality and religion and strikes a sarcastic — Twain's own term throughout the book — tone. Initially, another of his daughters, Clara Clemens, objected to its publication in March 1939, probably because of its controversial and iconoclastic views on religion, claiming it presented a "distorted" view of her father. Henry Nash Smith helped change her position in 1960. Clara explained her change of heart in 1962 saying that "Mark Twain belonged to the world" and that public opinion had become more tolerant. She was also influenced to release the papers by her annoyance with Soviet reports that her father's ideas were being suppressed in the United States. The papers were selected, edited and sequenced for the book in 1939 by Bernard DeVoto.

It does, but I do not assume we are dealing with normal, functioning humans in the Congress.

Hey John!

Doesn’t your condemnation constitute an “in kind endorsement” that exceeds Federal limits?

No Cruz supporter thinks Cruz will be nominated at a brokered convention. None.

I have heard this claim over and over again from Trump supporters. Last night from heights.

I asked him to provide a link from a Cruz supporter claiming that Cruz would be nominated at a brokered convention. He didn’t provide one.

So I will ask you for one as well. If you have seen a Cruz supporter claim that Cruz will win the nomination at a brokered convention, please provide a link.

Exactly. My biggest problem with Trump is with his supporters insults. I will not support anyone but Cruz or Trump but they insult me daily. I still like the idea of Trump/Cruz only to stick it to the elite power structure. Hearing that Cruz is part of the elite makes me ?? their intelligence.

While Trump/Cruz might be good for the country, we must all remember that unless they can beat the Democratic Party nominee and VP choice, it doesn’t matter.

Agreed, but can we win with a nominee whose only backers are intelligent people?

Obviously not, LOL
