The former president took on the NRA at a campaign rally for his wife. He said each year gun ownership has gone down slightly in America, but PolitiFact says that's only half true.
They looked at poll data, and gun ownership has fluctuated, up and down.
Pew Research says there's no definitive data on the subject,

There’s a Holy Door in the inner city over there that I want to visit. I want to take my granddaughter. I won’t go without my gun. I also used to go to the Plaza and Brookside about once a year but quit when the thugs started running things at the Plaza. I might change my mind. But you are correct, this is a great community and pretty much everything I want and certainly everything I need is here. Colorado and Utah coming up in May.
