Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz said on Sunday that the protesters at rival Donald Trump's rallies are behaving "abusively and wrong," but added that it doesn't help when the GOP front-runner encourages violence.
"At the end of the day in any campaign, responsibility starts at the top," the Texas senator said on NBC's "Meet the Press" on Sunday.
"And it is not beneficial when you have a presidential candidate like Donald Trump telling his supporters, 'Punch that guy in the face.' We ought to have a president who brings us together, who doesn't seek to divide us."
Cruz said on Sunday that the protesters at Trump's rallies don't have a right to "threaten violence."
He added that it's important a candidate show respect for the voters.

Just listened to the audio from Glenn Beck’s show when he threatened Trump he says “If I was close to him(Donald Trump) and I had a knife the stabbing just wouldn’t stop” real funny.
No sir. Trump is responsible for the tone of his campaign and Cruz is responsible for the tone of his.
That would include Beck and his deranged “commentary.”
CRUZ: The final two candidates I'll discuss are Trump and Ben Carson. Both of them, I like and respect both Donald and Ben. I do not believe either one of them will be our nominee or our president.
Both of them, their camaigns have a natural ark. With both of them, gravity is pulling them down. Carson is further in that descent. Look at Paris, look at San Bernardino, it has given a seriousness to the race that people are looking for who is prepared to be commender in chief, who understands the threats we face. That's a question of strength but it is also a question of judgement, and it is a challenging question for both of them.
So my approach, much to the chagrin of the media, has been to bear hug both of them, smother them with love. Because I think people run as who they are, I beleive that gravity will bring both of those campaigns down and the lion's share of thier supporters come to us.
WOW! Really heavy stuff - explains it all, even the TIMING!
So claims Beck. The audio proves exactly the opposite.
Yeah, good point. Beck is free to joke about assassinating a presidential candidate without repercussions, but if Trump jokes about punching a protestor, it proves he's the new Hitler.
Got it.
"Stu Burguiere, the head writer of The Glenn Beck Program, took to Twitter to clarify that the comments were aimed at him, not Trump, once media outlets began to ran with the unclear distinction."
If responsibility starts at the top Mr. Rafael Eduardo Cruz, then you are responsible for your campaign cheating and lying are you not?
But you took a different approach and blamed your campaign manager and other rogue staff and deflected the blame away
form you!
Stu knows Beck stepped on his own ****, and is trying to spin the problem away. He is being paid well for this service.
With friends like you, who needs enemies?
+++++++++++
You will search in vain for -any- statement of mine indicating friendship with oily Felito. I always knew something was off. Closer inspection just reveals the depth and depravity of Cruz the ooze.
Stu knows Beck stepped on his own ****, and is trying to spin the problem away. He is being paid well for this service.
That's the typical response I expected. Nutjob as you probably refer to him as or not, if you listened to his radio show remotely, you would recognize the truth about their regular, jocular banter.
Have a nice day!
Glad I was able to fulfill your expectations!
Now, go listen to the audio again. I believe Beck was joking in his own Sternish way, but it was clear that he was referring to the people who were on that debate stage. The context involved an exchange between Cruz and Trump, and there’s no possible way he was talking about Cruz.
I used to be a Cruz guy, but now I hate him. He is siding with the leftwing mob. He’s just another sleazy lawyer.
OK, you're right, he was not talking about Cruz, he was referring to Stu.
Thanks for the clarification!
Funny, but I didn’t see Stu on stage will all those candidates. When did he get in the race?
Oops! will = with
LOL! Maybe I'm getting my threads crossed. If you were referring to the stabbing comment, Stu was online in another studio. That is to whom Glen was referring.
I doubt I will change your mind regarding the context nor you mine so I am hopeful that we can simply finish with a respectful disagreement.
Pot meet kettle — black.
The bible is, and I keep on setting my clock by it. Sorry if you don’t like truth being brought to bear.
Yes, absolutely! Have a great evening!
