There's a difference between giving money and trying to get into somebody's inner circle on the one hand, and running real risks and getting involved in violence on the other.

There are things you might do for a family member and things you might do for a stranger out of shared beliefs or a desire for gain.

I knew people in college who loved to protest. They didn't need the Bushes to get them to have a sit-in. Most of the time it was the Bushes they were protesting against.
