Ted Cruz: Closet Pentecostal
East Orlando Post ^ | March 11, 2016 | Jacob Engels

Posted on 03/11/2016 7:15:16 AM PST by freedomjusticeruleoflaw

While Ted Cruz proudly proclaims he is an Evangelical Christian, his campaign takes pains to hide the truth that Cruz and his pastor father, Rafael Cruz are Pentecostal Christians, a fact further hidden by having Ted and Heidi Cruz’s belong to the congregation of First Baptist Church, a Southern Baptist church in Houston, as their home church. Both Cruz’s parents, his father Rafael a Cuban-born immigrant, and his mother Eleanor, born in Wilmington, Delaware, grew up in Catholic families. Both were among the millions of that left the Catholic Church since the 1960s to embrace Pentecostalism, a Christian movement estimated to make up 4.4 percent of the U.S. population, accounting for some 13 percent of evangelical churches in the United States. - See more at: http://eastorlandopost.com/ted-cruz-closet-pentecostal#sthash.M95M8HTV.dpuf

War on Christianity. And FReepers enlisting.

Never thought to see it.

Bizarre.

It’s not his religion, it’s the “on a mission from God” imprimatur.

What IS the deal with speaking in tongues? Why do they do it?

Because the early Church did it. Read Acts and other epistles to find out.

I'm not a fan of the forced, learned variety of tongue speaking, and I believe this describes over 95% of these congregations. Early tongues were actually REAL human languages, not learned by the speaker, but used fluently by him through the enabling of the Spirit, to speak to God. It's like you speaking perfect Swahili (assuming you don't already know it,) in a worship service, and someone else not knowing Swahili interpreting it for you.

Thanks. That is kind of what I was asking. I knew a guy who got sucked into one of the religions which I considered kind of a cult that required him to live there and give all his stuff and money to the church. I believe it was nominally Christian as they had a cross on their church.

...and this whole thread wasn't intended to exhibit a holier than thou attitude?

So, you figure "true" Christians will be more comfortable with a serial adulterer in office than a Pentecostal?

Well there’s Pentecostals and then there’s Dominionism. Two totally different fish. Ted Cruz’s father is a pastor of the Purifying Fire International Ministry. That is not Petecostal Holiness but rather a sect looking to anoint a Dominionist messiah who will bring God’s laws to reign. They are going to do it. They don’t need God’s laws they will do it. Name it and claim it. Kenneth Copeland etc.

Hyperbolic much? Where is the “war on God?” Discernment leads me to question, so I question. I have seen many preachers fall hard on their pious sword. When you run for president I would suggest that you hide all the videos that suggest you are on a mission from God. People worry.

“Cruz should have avoided Beck like the plague.” His father bothers me. His father isn’t helping Ted from the get go. He keeps popping up and not in a positive way. He is and will be a liability.

Oh, where are Trump’s tax forms, btw? Let’s see how much he tithes...

You must be new to politics. You obviously don't understand how it works.

Only those who mention anything related to morals or ethics or virtue are held to any standards.

In the same way that Bill Clinton wasn't a hypocrite when he had sex with an intern, Trump isn't a hypocrite for not tithing because nobody has any expectation that either of them care about issues of right and wrong.

Candidates like Cruz, on the other hand, are expected to be perfect in every way because they dare to acknowledge the difference between good and evil.

This video and the fact that Ted admitted that essentially he doesn’t tithe tells me that his faith is largely a charade. By far my biggest concern about him.

Reagan divorced. Most Christians lump divorce and adultery into the same category. If you vote for Cruz because he is on a crusade pray that he doesn’t go sideways. If he does this little thread that you are worried about will seem like pinprick.

in the early 70s, after my mother died, I left the catholic church and began wandering. Didn’t become a Buddhist or a Rastafarian, went to holiness churches, Baptist Churches, Methodist, almost every mainstream denomination.Didn’t handle snakes though. The point is, this insinuation is a load of crap. Ted Cruz is not a liar, he’s not a crazy, he is Christian. And the fact he mentions God in most of his speeches is bothersome to a lot of people. I imagine he knows that.
I fail to get Drudge’s epiphany.

I respect tithing Christians, and trust me, there are millions of those. The fact that Cruz is not one is a clue methinks.

My family tells the stories about how my relative went full on speaking in tongues and had fits and fell to the floor, etc.

Back then, many in the family thought she was nuts. I think she might have even been put in a mental hospital for awhile.

Maybe she really did have the Holy Spirit and people just didn’t understand.

But she definitely identified as being a Pentecost.

And Carson is a Seventh-Day Adventist. Of course that only mattered before. It doesn’t matter anymore.

I’m a low info guy. And when I read snakes, tongues and such I think of Caribbean voodoo crap. I’m sorry it’s just me. Run for the doors I’m out of here.

I’m a Southern Baptist and because I dislike Bible-thumping liars like Ted Cruz i’m “anti-Christian?” Shove it.

And “dominionism” is a no-go in this country for obvious reasons for all you so-called “Constitutional conservatives” out there.

Good grief.

What a joke of an answer.

By your logic anything headlined by drudge must be pretty damn important, including chasing down somebodies evangelical sect.

Go post on DU, you’ll get more respect and satisfaction.
