-snip-
Mr. Trump suggests those numbers will improve when he begins attacking Mrs. Clinton in the general election: I havent even started on her yet. Then again, neither have Democrats started on him.
They will pummel him over his bankruptcies, this summers Trump University fraud trial, his crude and misogynistic statements, his nativism while hiring foreign workers, his imperious manner. These things may not matter to Mr. Trumps die-hard Republican primary supporters; they will matter to swing voters in a general election.
The GOP contest will arrive at its most critical moment next week. If Gov. Kasich wins Ohio, Sen. Rubio wins Florida and Sen. Cruz wins North Carolina, no one is likely to go to the convention with a delegate majority. On the other hand, if Mr. Trump wins Florida and Ohio, hell arrive in Cleveland in a strong position to become the partys standard-bearer.
At this stage, stopping Donald Trump from winning the nomination will require Republicans to vote strategically, casting ballots for the non-Trump candidate best positioned to win each state. Thats easy to suggest; its a lot harder to pull off.

Well obviously we have utterly no worries then. Cruz, the voters much beloved, will be swept to victory by this army of supporters discovered by the WSJ as soon as the misguided souls Kairch and Rubio get out of his way.
Why are we even talking any more? Why dont we all just check out and enjoy playing golf or what ever?
Obviously there is no need for us to talk or think or do anything in Politics any more. From now on we can simply wait for the Media to publish a poll and follow what ever they direct us to think and do.
One question, why is the much beloved Cruz not beating Trump since he obviously is so worshiped by the voters?
Carl Rove needs a quick trip down a flight of stairs.
“OH might be close. FL & NC are blow-outs.”
Yep.
Although, one never knows 100% for sure what the future will bring.
Trump/Czervik ‘16
Rove totally misses the point since he wouldn’t do it the way Trump is going to do it. Trump is going to call a spade a spade day after day week after week. LAst’s nights Ramos debate with Hillary will look lame by comparison. The lefty’s will lose news cycle after cycle.
Well Karl, while you are so busy hyperventilating about Trump it appears you forgot to check Hillary’s negatives.
Rove is creating a straw-man argument here. He is project Trump against some imaginary Democrat rather then comparing Trump to Hillary.
The Republican establishment along with their Presidential candidates, their media, their PAC’s and Lobbyists have already pummeled Donald Trump with lies and distortions and Trump has not only survived but is growing support! He will pull in probably 20% of democrats who will vote for him in general election, including up to 25% of blacks possibly. He has brought millions to the Republican party in the primaries...many democrats, many independents and people who have never participated in elections before. They should be loving this and embrace him...the fact that they do not is evidence that they look at him as a threat to their power and corruption. Cruz at best is a very small lightweight version. Trump is the man they feel they HAVE to defeat. In spite of the will of the American people.
The Rats will make up stuff in October just before the election, then blast it 24/7 ....
Yep. And if I'd been plumbed a little differently, I might have been a Mama.
heck....while we’re wishing.....I’ll take “I’m my own grandpa” for $1000, Alex.
The only thing Trump would have to say is “This coming from the party of a candidate who has a pending federal indictment, and is a lying, treasonous, rapist enabling, USN Seal murderer. Ask Ambassador Stevens who he would vote for, oh wait, he can’t.”
“Then again, neither have Democrats started on him”
Haven’t the GOPEs thrown everything at him that can be thrown?
What profound electoral wisdom is the Rove going to share with us today. (Someone tell him that Mitt lost.)
At this stage, stopping Donald Trump from winning the nomination will require Republicans
to vote strategically, casting ballots for the non-Trump candidate best positioned to win each state.
**************
Yep, to hell with the will of the people but vote against
their will by supporting a loser.
The GOPe candidates are so good that they have to try to win with dirty tricks and lies to fool the public. That says it all.
GO TRUMP!
To keep the polls well-calibrated.
Sayeth the Rove: “Mr. Trump suggests those numbers will improve when he begins attacking Mrs. Clinton in the general election: I havent even started on her yet. Then again, neither have Democrats started on him.”
And why should they have to? The GOPe is doing all the work for them. See Karl, he is being vetted right now and all the things you mentioned are being raise by your big money PAC’s right now. Hillary!?!? Blabbermouth Schultz is creating a huge campaign safety zone to protect her from whatever micro-aggressions she might have to endure.
Honestly, I dream of beating Rove senseless with his own white board. Then, I remember that he has no sense.
Just for curiosity I actually read the WSJ article.
It’s a transparent hit piece by Rove, with two nuggets buried between the lines.
1. If Trump wins in Florida, Ohio, and North Carolina it’s all over. Republicans should vote “strategically” to make sure this does not happen.
This is actually good news. If Rove is right about wins next Tuesday, then maybe Rove will finish melting down and we’ll be rid of him. If he remains semi-coherent, it will be interesting to see his next move.
2. The best line of attack Rove can come up with is that Trump has lower poll numbers against Hillary than his opponents.
This point is particularly disingenuous. Trump is under the heaviest sustained attack by his own party and nearly the entire media in political history. Trump’s primary opponents are getting kid glove treatment compared to what Trump is getting.
Comparing poll results with candidates who are not under attack is meaningless and Rove knows it. Anyone with half a brain can see through this.
An unspoken risk is cheating. Rumors abound about voting irregularities, including machine manipulation, and the GOPe is certainly willing to “do whatever it takes”. To the extent they can, this is certainly part of the plan as well.
Rove’s final line of defense is the convention, even if it looks like Trump has enough votes to win on the first ballot. He can change the rules, challenge seating of various delegations, etc. It ain’t over till it’s over.
Between now and November, one of two things is going to happen:
1. Hillary will be indicted, in which case it is over.
2. Hillary will NOT be indicted, in which case non-elite voters of every political stripe are going to be outraged. If FBI agents publicly walk out in protest, this will be a round-the-clock news story that will drag her down across the map.
