Millions of viewers tuned into to cable news networks during the prime 9 p.m. EST hour likely expecting to hear some candidate speeches. What they got, on CNN, Fox, and MSNBC, was one candidate talking for 45 minutes: Donald Trump.
All three networks stuck with Trump's long press conference even as it veered into sales pitches for his own product lines, despite the fact that Hillary Clinton, who had won the Mississippi primary in a landslide and was neck-and-neck in Michigan, spoke at the same time. They also mostly ignored Bernie Sanders' speech, which occurred in the 8 p.m. hour and John Kasich's speech, which happened during Trump's event.
Only MSNBC ran Clintons speech in its entirety after Trump finished. And neither Sanders, Kasich, nor any of the other candidates got anything more than snippets of air time.
That sparked an instant flutter of complaints on Twitter, and revived an uncomfortable issue: Did the networks, knowing that the often-unpredictable and blustery Trump draws a bigger audience, go with the better draw rather than cover the full political landscape?

One of the main reasons I am OK with Trump. You’ve got to have a President who can go around the press to advance anything but Leftist causes.

Even Hillary knows that the more people see and hear her, they less they like her. If she’s kept off the air, it’s by design and with her blessing.
She does sound like a crow complaining of hemorrhoids.
That “infomercial” was a response to specific false claims in paid ads attacking Trump’s various businesses. So it was not just an infomercial. It was a defense of his business experience.
Wine ain’t vodka. Magazine had a different name.
I’d love to see numbers and why Trump carried Hawaii. It is such a different demographic mix than anywhere else in the US.
She’s looking like that in the primary? I swear, Trump will put her in the hospital in the general.
As long as it takes to reach for the remote. Average about 3 seconds.
I just can't stand the Cow's strident yelling even when using an amplifier.
As Norm McDonald once put it: “Hillary Clinton. Where boners go to die.”
Crude, but accurate.
Boo effing hoo, Politico.
Yeah, here are the details:

Brilliant. Trump negated hundreds of millions of dollars of negative ads for free. He mocked Romney’s jihad which was the point of the so called infomercial. He also called for unity.
Cruz hatchet man Jeff Roe says the average voter pays attention for 17 seconds and the goal is to get them for 45 seconds. Trump had them for an hour, mixing humor with boasting with serious answers with policy with rebuttal of smears with calls for unity.
Then when he dropped the mic and left the stage he made his best comment about all the money spent against him “I’d rather they saved it to beat Hillary”
Boom.
There are in-house businesses Trump runs... no infomercial... he’s not selling this stuff to the public.
Trump is the frontrunner. He should get more press than runner-ups.
