Windows Ten started downloading automatically. I simply unplugged the computer and restarted in safe mode.
How do I get rid of this bastard system update. Specifically purchased new Windows 7 Pro machine and do not want to update EVER!
How do I shut off this auto update. Not computer savvy BTW
All 7 and 8 versions will download windows 10. You can only set it up not to install it.
Can you ping for some help for this gentleman?
Download & Install it.
Execute it, turn off Windows 10 Updates.
Easy peasy.
Here is a explanation o how to stop the update to Windows 10.

I’m not computer literate either but this thread may help you.

BOOKMARK FOR FUTURE ISSUES
Now you’ve done it. Bill Gates is getting in his helicopter and heading your way, pronto.
Same here. Bookmarked.
My worksite and indeed, the entire school district (the fourth largest in the nation) is downloading it and wiping all our old files in the process. Sometime in the next few weeks.
One of my kids hit the update button without me knowing, I was a little surprised to see Windows 10 come up when I started my computer today.
It was Win 8.1 before so not a big deal to me.
So Far, so good, I was running start 8 before and I think it is still running. Other that some subtle changes, it pretty much looks like Win 7 and seems pretty smooth.
If you like your Windows 7 you can keep your Windows 7.
You need or should of gone to your windows update section and changed it to the "Check with me first" option before downloading anything.
Good luck.
You can still undo that upgrade. Microsoft does let you revert back.
bump
Hey! My XP did not automatically update. Why am I left out.
What is really scary is Im still running office 2000.
M4L no Win 10
If it’s Windows 10 Home you can’t prevent the updates.
THIS:
GWX Control Panel is the easiest way for users of Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 to protect their computers from Windows 10. With GWX Control Panel you can: Remove the “Get Windows 10” icon that appears in your notification area, prevent your Windows Update control panel from upgrading your computer to Windows 10, prevent your computer from secretly downloading Windows 10 installation files, detect and remove the hidden Windows 10 installation files if they’re already on your PC, optionally monitor your computer for unwanted Windows 10-related settings and files- and beginning with version 1.7 you can now easily delete some hard-to-remove program files that are known to cause Windows 10 upgrades and annoyances.
GWX Control Panel is free software that really works, is safe and easy to use, and gives you the option to re-enable the icon and upgrade notifications if you’re ever ready to move forward with Windows 10.

Oh, sorry, I misunderstood. You mean you don’t want to update to Windows 10 at all.
