Poll: Trump leads GOP race nationally but with weaker hold on the party
The Washington Post ^ | 3/8/16 | Dan Balz and Scott Clement

The Post-ABC poll finds that more than half of Republicans and GOP-leaning independents think Trump is dishonest, does not understand their problems, lacks the right experience, and does not have the right personality and temperament to be an effective president. By contrast, more than 6 in 10 Republicans say Cruz is honest, empathetic, and has the right temperament and experience; similar shares say Rubio has the first three qualities, while half say he has the right experience.

In a hypothetical head-to-head test of strength between Trump and Cruz, Republicans say they prefer the senator by 54 to 41 percent. Rubio is a narrower favorite in a one-on-one test against Trump, with an edge of 51 to 45 percent. The survey did not test a Trump-Kasich face-off.

-snip-

Among all Americans, Trump has a more negative image by far than Cruz or Rubio or than Clinton. Two in 3 adults say they have an unfavorable impression of Trump,

-snip-

Matched against his remaining rivals, Trump continues to perform slightly better among Republicans without college degrees than those who are university graduates, although he has an edge with both groups. He has a wider lead among voters younger than 50 than with older voters. Among white evangelical Christians, Trump narrowly trails Cruz, but among non-evangelicals and white Catholics, his lead is almost 2 to 1.

Matched directly against Cruz, though, Trump loses voters with or without college degrees, voters who see themselves as working class and middle class, and those with higher and lower incomes. Trump loses conservatives against Cruz, especially those who say they are “very conservative,” and the two tie among moderate and liberal Republicans.

Where Trump loses out is on his juvenile tone and lack of seriousness...

Well Trump has to speak to more than just snobs and is serious as a heart attack when it comes to him running for President if you haven’t noticed!

Yeah, the professional politicians and the liberal media don’t know what fight is coming when they start on Trump if he is the nominee...It’s already obvious from the way things have gone up to now...They are so used to roll over and play dead GOPe cowards that they will not know how to handle Trump any more than they know today...

It will definitely be “popcorn” time.....

Question is... how can you live with yourself knowing you are a patsy.

We can live with ourselves just fine, thank you! We know that our candidate is a real conservative, not just a lib in conservative clothing!

Actually, I think Trump supporters complaining about not listening to "the People" have it backwards. The majority of Republicans voters, not just "the elites", seem to not like Trump. Those anti-Trump voters are no less "the People" than are Trump's supporters.

The primary has essentially come down to seeing which group is more numerous. If more of "the People" support Trump, he wins. Otherwise, he loses.

Exactly how is that unfair?

I don't think it's just "snobs" who don't like Trump's juvenile insults, and devoid of substance comments about his ideas being "the greatest", "winning" more, and providing "the best" of everything.

It's just repackaged "hope" and "change".

The democrat will use Trump’s own words against him. Such as “I love poorly educated people”. How does he dispute that? He will lose the general. Of course, the plan is to make HC president. Why else would he make the stupid statements he makes?

People don’t like to admit they vote for Trump I think. Reverse Wilder effect or some such.

I guess it’s “We don’t care what the people think, it’s what the ‘Party’ thinks”. It’s the GOPolitburo.

Or something like: We know what the people ought to think, trust us.

This was a poll of 1000 “adults” the Monkey poll was of 19k registered voters; it showed Trump + 19 over Cruz. And of course there is the embarrassing (to them) Faux News poll showing Trump up 3x Cruz and Senior Amnesty. Sorry try again don’t let the door hit you in the ash on the way out.

Quite well thank you very much.

I would be thrilled to see a life long constitutional conservative get the nomination.

Frankly given the dishonest attacks trump (and his followers put on Cruz I have no problem with the attacks on Trump,

What comes around goes around.

constitutional conservative

If you support Cruz you have no idea what one really is. Read some biographies of the founders like, Meacham's "Thomas Jefferson,The Art of Power" and actually get a grip on who those folks really were and what they believed. Cruz not only lies about Trump, he lies about the Constitution also.

Turn off the Bible-thumping hypocrite Cruz and develop a mind of your own.
