Donald Trump is doing exactly what Michael Bloomberg did. He is using the Republican Party as a vehicle to obtain high office. Trump like Bloomberg had no prior history with Republicans, held almost no positions or ideals in common with the core values of the Republican electorate. Yet both billionaires are able not only to bypass the seven to ten thousand privileged connected Republican establishment, but they manage to attack huge numbers of Democrats and Independents to vote Republican in a general election.
No prior history with Republicans? You mean like his endorsements and huge donations to Dole, McCain, Romney? His support of the GOP goes back to when Cruz was in college or high school.
Trump endorsed and campaigned for Romney in 2012. So stupid of you to say he has no history with Republicans. Very stupid, actually, to the point of being intentionally obtuse.
That opinion commits the fallacy of too few alternatives. There are other possibilities in addition to the one stated as if it’s absolute objective fact.
I would say it a different way, Trump saw a hole in the GOP that needed fixing. He decided he could fix it. He would have to use his vast wealth and his knowledge of the media and he would select key issues that resonate with the conservative side of the GOP.
In this respect, he did not do the same as Bloomberg. Bloomberg picked a liberal place and selected issues that resonate with the left. (gun control and sugar). The only thing I see in common is the use of personal wealth.
I do not think Trump would like being compared with Bloomberg but maybe if Bloomberg joins the race from the Democrat side it may be more applicable to compare them.
I think you meant they “attract” Dems and Independents to vote for the R candidate in the general election.
You had what I think was a typo, said “attack”.
