As long as it was “just a date”.

RIP Nancy, you are now home with God and your beloved Ronald.

Yes indeed. I find that I have to explain to my kid what life was like “back then”. The kids retreat into electronics because they want a bunker, and don’t know what else to do.

I will never forgive or forget the neocons and the Clintons.

When Reagan’s casket was sitting in state in DC, I remember Nancy being escorted in before the doors were opened to the public.

The look on her face as she straightened and then gently caressed the flag covering the casket said more about her love for him than thousands of words could express.

I will carry that image with me forever.

Same here; I voted for Ronaldus Magnus in ‘76...

Upset when he didn’t win; was overjoyed when he won in ‘80.

RIP Nancy; say hello to RR for us!

Will we see the likes of them again in our lifetimes?

I was all right until I watched the hearse going to the ranch. Cars and people lined the road and waved goodbye.

That did it.

There was also the Marine without hands who stood in front of Reagan’s casket and saluted. That was a throat lump.

“...Will we see the likes of them again in our lifetimes?...”

Hard to say. The country is vastly different now than it was.

Watch this clip: Ronald Reagan roast, Dean Martin/Don Rickles

Back then, 1973, we still got along.

Not so much anymore.

Is it me or am I alone in thinking that someone of Mrs. Reagan’s position and stature deserves more than just a tweet or a Facebook post? Cruz released a statement, Rubio released a statement, heck even Obama released a statement. But a tweet is all Trump and Palin thinks Mrs. Reagan deserves?

I’m betting that a Cruz tweet will get more eyes than a Cruz statement.

I’m positive that a Trump tweet will.

I’m betting that a Cruz tweet will get more eyes than a Cruz statement.

Let's compare the two:

Donald Trump: "Nancy Reagan, the wife of a truly great president, was an amazing woman. She truly will be missed."

Total of 18 words, 98 characters, for one of the finest First Ladies to grace the White House.

Ted Cruz: "Today we mourn the loss of First Lady Nancy Reagan – she was first in the heart of “Ronnie,” and of Americans across the nation who will forever be grateful for her service to the nation. She was her husband's first friend and counselor – and his inspiration. In her public role as first lady, she brought elegance, dignity, and wisdom to the White House as she so graciously hosted dignitaries from around the world. She also poured her life into helping the afflicted, especially those gripped by drug and alcohol addition. She pioneered programs to lift Americans out of addiction and restore hope to them and their families.

When Ronald Reagan was diagnosed with Alzheimer's, her faithfulness only multiplied as she stayed by his side. She always remained the love of his life, and after his passing she carried on his legacy – and most of all his faith that this nation would always stand for good in the face of evil, defeat those who meant her harm, and remain a shining city upon a hill.

Today, Heidi and I mourn with the Reagan family, and we lift up prayers of gratitude for the many years of devotion Nancy gave to her husband and her country. We remember especially how dedicated she was to preserving the memories of her husband. She will be deeply missed. And we feel the sorrow of the nation. But we remember too that like her husband Nancy was a person of faith. Ronald Reagan said once he could not “imagine life without her.” It is good that they are together again."

Total of 264 words, 1489 characters. Trump would have to make eleven tweets to meet that.

So which one is a reflection of the kind of honor due to Nancy Reagan? And which one was the product of someone who couldn't even spare the whole 140 characters? Trump's may get more eyes. But Cruz's shows which candidate actually cared.

I had no idea that Cruz had written anything.

I knew that Trump had sent out an RIP immediately

So, which is more important: being seen or being lengthy?

I would think that sincerity would be most important. Trump obviously thinks that as long as he can fake that then that's all that matters.

President Reagan’s State Funeral was the most moving tribute to their love I’ve ever seen.

even the boots backwards in the sturrips did not get to me.

I was fine until Chenney took Nancy Reagan’s hand. Do you guys remember that moment? I cried for 2 hours.

Stupid Woman......(me).........

God Bless You Mrs. Reagan. We hold you in the highest esteem.

I remember the eulogy in which President Bush stated that “in the last decade of his life Ronald Reagan saw through a glass darkly. Now he stands face to face with his Savior”.

Now they both stand face to face with their Savior.

My daughter and Son-in-Law were stationed at Ft. Meyer at the time of Reagan’s funeral. SIL was in the Old Guard. He was marching (slowly) right behind Reagan’s caisson - in perfect unison. My daughter was on the route with her unit (her MOS was Personnel). When Reagan’s caisson passed by, her Captain announced “Salute!” and all saluted as the caisson passed by.

I was fine until Nancy came up to the casket and started rubbing it and crying. I lost it then.

What an honor to have been part of that. I’ll bet they were proud and tell their kids about it.
