I was the first national political commentator to see the potential of Donald Trump. I believed Trump could win the nomination when only two people in all of America believed it- me and Trump. I wrote about it at FoxNews.com last June.
I was the first to compare Trump to Reagan.
I was the first to talk publicly about Trumps appeal to blue-collar working class Americans.
So I think I am in perfect position to make some suggestions to the Trump campaign. Heres my plan to close the deal for the man who wrote "The Art of the Deal."
First Trump can put the race away today by going to John Kasich through a third party to make the following offer: John youre not winning the nomination. There is no clear path for anyone but me to win the nomination. Im about to open my wallet and spend $100 million to finish this race once and for all. I want you as my Vice President. Lets call a press conference tomorrow and announce were a team. That means we'll win Ohio together as a team. Race over. With you by my side we beat Hillary and win the White House. You're in charge of balancing the budget for the second time in your remarkable career. I win. You win. America wins.
Hows that for "The Art of the Deal? In one swoop Trump has D.C. credibility and experience the GOP establishment is quieted Trump is guaranteed to beat Hillary in the Midwest Trump has the perfect Vice President to win friends and twist arms on Capital Hill for the next 8 years and he is partners with the architect of the last balanced budget in Congress. Trump can lay claim that Trump-Kasich is good for business good for the economy and capable of cutting the debt and balancing the budget.
Next
For the next eight months Donald will be on nonstop flights criss-crossing the nation as he campaigns for president. Its time to master policy details. Donald Trump graduated the Wharton School at Penn. He is one of the world's great businessmen and visionaries. Hes capable of being as smart as any candidate for president ever. Its time to show it!
Bring an expert on every flight from now on- each one capable of teaching Donald the details of a specific political issue. On day one bring Kasich along for the ride to instruct Trump how to best balance the budget. On day two bring John Bolton to instruct Trump how to best return America to greatness on the global stage. On day three bring Rudy Giuliani to instruct Trump on how to best fight terrorism. On day four bring Sheriff Joe Arpaio to instruct Trump on how to best enforce immigration policy. On day five bring Dr. Ben Carson to discuss the best policies for repealing and replacing Obamacare.
Its time to meet with "the best of the best" and study the details. Allow no one to ever again say Donald Trump doesnt have a plan, or hes short on detail.
Its time to stop the wise-cracking, insulting and fighting with fellow Republicans. Donald Trump must unite conservatives and the GOP. Excite voters with your plan and your great grasp of details. Announce your GOP "Dream Team."
Bring Dennis Miller on board the campaign to write funny lines for your speeches and debate performances. Reagan became president because he made people laugh and smile. But he never wrote the jokes. Reagan just delivered them.
Bring Peggy Noonan on board to write your speeches. Pay her whatever she wants. You have $10 billion and you want to win the election. Its time to open up your wallet. Trump is the CEO and visionary- but he needs to hire smart people with writing skills to write speeches based on Trumps vision.
Then stick to five themes for the rest of the campaign:
1) Economy, economy, economy. Its horrible. Obama just became the first president in the history of America to preside over 7 straight years of under 3% GDP. That makes him worse than Hoover during the depths of the Great Depression. Hillary says she wants to continue Obamas policies and legacy. Hang this economy around her neck 24/7.
2) Obamacare. The middle class is being annihilated and bankrupted by Obamacare. They understand exactly whats happening. They are being purposely targeted for extinction. Promise youll repeal and replace 24/7. Make Hillary build her campaign around defending Obamacare. You can ride that one theme straight to the White House.
3) The incompetency and evil of government. The IRS just admitted that they tried to protect the taxpayers whose IDs were hacked last year and they were hacked again. This is your government. Trump must attack the evils of government 24/7. Make Hillary defend government and say out loud with a straight face that government is good for us and smart and competent. Thats the end of Hillary.
4) Build the wall. This is the issue that catapulted Trump to the top of the polls. This is the issue that keeps middle and working class voters forever loyal to Trump.
5) Start branding Hillary as a criminal. Say it loudly every time the media brings up her name. Say she violated the laws of the United States she should be under indictment and she cannot be trusted. Repeat it 24/7 until she is branded as a criminal...and she will never be president.
Lastly, laugh at critics who bring up your business failures. Failure is a natural part of entrepreneurship. All entrepreneurs and visionaries fail. Edison failed 10,000 times before he invented the light bulb. Thank God there are courageous heroes willing to risk, fail and lose their own money. Their courage is what makes America great. Sure you failed a dozen times. Who cares? You also risked billions of dollars created hundereds of thousands of jobs paid billions in taxes and succeeded with hundreds of businesses. Tell your critics to shove it. Not one of your critics has ever had the balls to risk their own money.
They've never failed because they never took a risk. Even your failures pumped billions into the U.S. economy. Your failures are a badge of honor.
Tell them to keep talking about your failures while you talk about your many successes that helped make America great. May the best candidate win!
Do all of this and Donald J Trump is the next president of the United States.
As long as we’re speculating on possible and effective VP choices, how about Giuliani? He and Trump together deliver NY? Strong ticket even if it would drive the social conservaties nuts. Giulianni is a strong law and order conservative. I would vote for that ticket even if not perfect, and I’m a string social conservative. Have at it.
I like OK guv Mary Fallin as an unexpected veep pick.
Loads of executive experience, very conservative.
Not Kasich. The Condit connection will be front and center, as well as the S&M club.
Not Bolton. RINO globalist.
Yes to Arpaio, Miller, Carson, Noonan (didn’t she write for Reagan?).
“when only two people in all of America believed it- me and Trump.”
He writes for TownHall and it’s “me and Trump”? How about “Trump and I”?
12th amendment: "The Electors shall meet in their respective states, and vote by ballot for President and Vice-President, one of whom, at least, shall not be an inhabitant of the same state with themselves; "
This is a pretty good plan. But I would go with a different VP.
They are thinking it’s the way to win Ohio.
The downside is that it’s two old white guys.
My favorite Shock and Awe pick is Sheriff David Clarke of Milwaukee, regular guest on Hannity.
My party unity candidate is, of course, Ted Cruz.
My favorite cross over/blue collar pick would be democrat Jim Webb.
My favorite, “Let’s kill this ticket and lose” pick is Jeb Bush.
“Reagan adding Bush helped Reagan because Reagan didn’t get sabotaged the way Goldwater did.”
Right, so shouldn’t Trump follow Reagan’s example?
“I get a sense you are really pumping for Kasich. “
Really? wow, no not at all. I was just agreeing with the author of the article’s theory.
“Are you a fan of his, supporting him in this election, or from Ohio? Because I personally can’t stand his smarmy ass and his oh so moderate adult tone. “
No I’m not really a fan at all. He’s GOPe. And his claim to fame is he “has the experience”, which for me, is NOT what we need.
I simply want Trump, if Kasich gets me Trump then I’m fine with him.
Trump should not repeat the mistake. He can win without sucking up to the GOPe, and he will be more popular for not doing that.
If he picks Kasich, I will still support him, but not as enthusiastically, and I fear that many won't support him at all.
“He can win without sucking up to the GOPe,”
That would be the most satisfying outcome!
Correct.
We can only hope. Donald is our last chance to make American great and RESPECTED again.
DONALD IS OUR ONLY VOICE
The corrupt career politicians are scared to death of him.
God protect Donald. We need him.
Concurring bump. Totally. The Bushmen basically did a palace coup, one job at a time. By the time it was "Bush's turn" in 1988, there wasn't a Reaganaut left in the Administration except for (perhaps) Ed Meese. The Bush people pushed them out and tried to corner Ronnie from their first day in office. Reagan's biggest day-to-day fight was to keep James Baker and the rest of the Bushbots from painting him into a corner.
Nixon didn't like Bush, either, but Bush knew a ton of people (Bonesman and all that) and was always underfoot, wanting something. Nixon eventually appointed him to run the RNC just to get rid of him. (From a tale out of school passed along by L.A. Times writer Murray Kempton, who became a lunch-buddy in Nixon's San Clemente retirement years.)
Better pick: J.C. Watts, just to totally frost their grits. They couldn't complain about his choice -- that'd be RAAA-cisss!, lol.
You know, of course, that he will do none of that?
