resident Obama is not only expected to close Guantanamo Bay, but rumor has it he is prepared to give our U.S. Naval Station in the region to Cuba.
House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Ed Royce has prepared legislation to halt this potential dangerous transition. The United States Naval Station Guantanamo Bay Preservation Act would require the president to seek approval from Congress before making anymore dangerous decisions.
In just a few weeks, President Obama will meet with the communist government in Cuba. The White House says our Naval Station at Guantanamo Bay is sure to be a part of discussions. While giving the base to the Castro regime may not be a part of this trip, as the White House insists, its long record of one-sided concessions and lack of transparency over Cuba policy makes me very concerned about the status of this key Naval Station. Because if we move out, who will move in? Are we willing to cede a vital national security tool to Russia?
This urgency comes from the fact that we would be handing the naval station to the Castros.
In the bills text, Royce explains the naval station, the only military base in Latin America and the Caribbean, is an important presence because it protects our maritime interests in the region. It also served as a significant source of relief for victims affected by the 2010 earthquakes in Haiti.
We cant afford to give such an important base to a communist regime.
Royce is clear: If President Obama is determined to give Cuba this important national security location, hell have to go through Congress first.
‘twas predicted when the WH announced the trip to Cuba.
All talk from the Republicans these days.
Obama will give the base back to Cuba. The original agreement negotiated after the Spanish- American War was 99 years.. We are a month to month tenant and that will be Obamas rationale for the give back. Watch and wait.
Problem is I don’t think congress can stop it!!! Once all the Terrorist are transferred Then He transfers all the military off base and hands the keys to the Cubans.. Then it’s all over folks!!!
Of course he will by EO
Interesting that there is not a word from the mediacrats about “giving the military an illegal order”
It was two or three weeks ago that I posted that I thought Obama was going to give Gitmo back to Cuba.
Trump needs to publicly announce that this is something that Obama is thinking of doing, and that if he does it and the Cubans take over the place, that he will order the military to take it back on January 20th.
They are committed until Obama frowns at Mitch McConnell who will then roll over whimpering like a puppy. Ryan will follow.
Yes. The Republicrats were going to stop husseincare, the trade deals, court nominees, spending etc. I guess they didn’t.
“Trump needs to publicly announce that this is something that Obama is thinking of doing, and that if he does it and the Cubans take over the place, that he will order the military to take it back on January 20th.”
Absolutely. Yes - say it loud and clear and often enough so the media cannot ignore it.
He is in a mad rush to screw America over as much as possible in the next 10 months.
Mitch and the boys like the submissive little GOPe bitches they are.
Mebbe the Pubbies in congress would be brave enough to hold a news conference where they make mean faces in response to the illegal executive action.
Mitch would probably be so pissed off that he would delay confirming Obama’s Supreme Court nominee for a week or so.
What is the legal status of the base? Is it something that the Commander-in-Chief can decide on unilaterally?
He sure worked on it.
This certainly calls for another strongly worded memo from House Speaker Paul Ryan to King Obama !!!
He gives the base back to Cuba, Russia and/or China will be in there before the end of the year.
