What’s wrong with what he actually said, if a candidate gets over 50% of the delegates he wins the nominate. But if nobody gets 50%, then there will be deals made to get somebody over 50%. And that person may or may not be the person with the plurality.
That’s the whole point of having a convention. Otherwise we can just count the votes and declare the winner as the person with the plurality.

Don’t see what the big deal is. That’s the way conventions work and always have worked.
What I’m hearing from the militants is that, if Donald comes close but no majority, he has to win anyway.
