“Whats wrong with what he actually said, if a candidate gets over 50% of the delegates he wins the nominate. But if nobody gets 50%, then there will be deals made to get somebody over 50%.”
Don’t see what the big deal is. That’s the way conventions work and always have worked.
What I’m hearing from the militants is that, if Donald comes close but no majority, he has to win anyway.
If Trump is one delegate short, he will not get the nomination. And I strongly support that result.
That’s what they are saying. If Trump has the plurality but not the majority, then any outcome other than Trump getting the nod is “stolen” from Trump.
They are the ones who are trying to change the rules, because they want to de facto change the winning criteria from majority to plurality.
The “deal” is more that the runner up gets to be VP, NOT that the delegates get to choose someone besides the front runner if he doesn’t get 50% though no one else is even close!
The idea of a loss is difficult to accept. The reality is that Trump's scorched earth policy has not endeared him in the least to the other candidate's delegates. In fact, it has repelled them. They are far more likely to coalesce behind "anyone other than Trump." He could well go into the convention with a plurality and not win the nomination.
