And Tom Delay needs to understand the voters pick the Delegates.

Not in Texas. I don't know if he was specifically talking about Texas, but the popular vote does not select delegates. It just sets the proportion of delegates that go to the convention.

The rules in Texas are very weird.

Tom does not understand it is the voters that decide how the delegates will vote. Or does he have something else in mind?

If one of the candidates goes into the convention with the minimum number of delegates all tied up, then the vote is really just a simple formality for show and celebration.

If, however, we go into the convention and no candidate has the minimum number of delegate votes to secure the nomination, then they vote over and over, with negotiations, until one of the candidates does have enough votes. If I remember correctly, they are only bound to vote for the candidate that they were elected to represent on the first vote. After that, they can choose to go any way they want. So in this case, yes, it IS the delegates who will decide the party's nominee.

Why is Trump so so special that the rules should be changed for him...

This isn't about Trump...this is about us. Trump is the messenger for the message we wish to send, that we're done with the party F#@%ing with us. Remember Mississippi.

They can ignore us. They can send Mitt out to badmouth Trump, or Ryan to call Trump a wannabe KKK member.

If Trump loses fair and square, we're good with that. But fair and square left quite awhile ago.

If they continue on the path they've chosen, they've declared war on his supporters (us) also. Should they do so the party will not survive intact if it survives at all.

“Trump is the messenger for the message we wish to send”

He may be for you but not for me and many others.

What I’m hearing from the militants is that, if Donald comes close but no majority, he has to win anyway.

The idea of a loss is difficult to accept. The reality is that Trump's scorched earth policy has not endeared him in the least to the other candidate's delegates. In fact, it has repelled them. They are far more likely to coalesce behind "anyone other than Trump." He could well go into the convention with a plurality and not win the nomination.

Got it. If you’re in it for the fun it can be quite entertaining. And easy too!

Well, let's be clear about the message I want to send....the GOPee is going down. They've got their fingers in the batter now. I wouldn't be angry if Trump lost fair and square...but as I said before, we're way past that.

As I said they can pretty much do what they want to do. If a Bush or a Kasich or Rubio or Romney or Ryan magically becomes the nominee, I will advocate not voting for him. And I will encourage others to do the same.

I'm not alone, and I will not be guilted or pressured. They say they want to avoid a landslide loss? Nominate one of those establishment stiffs and see how much of their base sits on their hands.

The GOPee has to go before any progress can be made. Pull this cr@p and the GOP will not survive intact, if at all.

So...what's the message you want to send, and tell me why you disagree with mine!

Thanks. I do understand how it works. And if it works the way Romey/Delay want it to, millions of Republican voters will sit out the election.

My point was a comparison between Delay’s legal troubles and outcome and the way he views the convention should go. It was a stretch my point would be grasped.

Appreciate the added information though. Thanks.

Another Trump moron. God help us.

I spent way too many years having the GOPe actively oppose my candidates. Sat in way too many community meetings listening to promises that were not kept. Seen way too many times seen Republican elected afraid to speak up and vote the same way they chatter.

I would be a moron if I fell for the GOPe again. If Romney/Delay and other company get their way, I will not vote.

“The “deal” is more that the runner up gets to be VP, NOT that the delegates get to choose someone besides the front runner if he doesn’t get 50% though no one else is even close!”

Maybe that’s how it will go. But after the first ballot, the delegates could pick me. I’m over 35 and a natural born US citizen.

Not sure why any of the runners up would want to be VP in a Trump administration.

I hear you. Those hard feelings are hard to make go away. The way Romney treated the Ron Paul folks in 2012 was shameful and we lost a bunch of them forever to the conservative movement.

Either way, a large bunch of tea party/anti-establishment folks are going to come out of this convention severely butt-hurt. The reason feelings run so high is that we actually had a chance to elect a conservative this year in a wave election and we are probably going to blow it. It is the greatest political opportunity since 1980. And pretty much nothing will come of it, in my opinion.
