Tom Delay: Voters Need to Understand “The Delegates Pick the Nominee” (Video)
The Gateway Pundit ^ | 03/05/2016 | Jim Hoft

Posted on 03/05/2016 11:06:05 AM PST by nhwingut

Former House Majority Leader Tom Delay told Cavuto the GOP voters need to understand that the “delegates pick the nominee.”

Tom Delay: It’s not stealing the nomination. It’s the process. People need to realize that this is not an election of a president. This is the nomination of a candidate. And there’s a process and there’s rules and everybody has a fair shot at those rules. But in the end, the representatives, the delegates make the decision at the convention one way or another. And if no candidate gets to the convention with the majority of the votes then the delegates, duly elected to represent the people who have voted, get to decide. It’s not stealing anything.

I can’t believe so many people don’t know the reason for the primaries and how they and the convention work together to find the candidate with the majority of support. They see an article that says GOPe and stealing something from Trump and they whine. Good grief.

All of this can be avoided if Trump gets 50% of the delegates, which is what all other candidate is past primaries in my life time have accomplished to get the nomination.

Why is Trump so so special that the rules should be changed for him, that he should get handed the nomination by just getting the plurality rather than work to get the majority like every other candidate in history.

How many primaries in your life now where the LAST TWO NOMINEES who lost their elections come out AGAINST THE DEMONSTRATED FRONT RUNNER! And this after "Super Tuesday"!

How many primaries in your life now where the GOAL is to have a brokered convention to deny the FRONT RUNNER the nomination?

I'll see how well you come along with things when Trump is the nominee and you retreat to your next principled stand. We really aren't as stupid as people think.

What I’ve seen in the past few years... hillary is guilty of crimes but able to run for President. bill can stand outside a polling place and ask for votes but nothing is done. obama can do whatever he wants to.. illegal and lawless.. nothing is done. congress can also do whatever they want to and nothing is done. Some congress persons do not pay taxes and nothing is done. Rules only apply to the little people in fly over land.

But Delay now says there are rules and regulations in the process of electing a President.. and the will of the people is not the way it’s done. Since when do rules and regulations mean squat to Washington/congress/media? Only when the people rise up and speak. Have you not noticed? There is a revolution in progress.

We pick the candidate with the majority of support at the convention. We always have and nothing has changed. If Trump doesn’t have the majority going into the convention, the delegates that were pledged to other candidates might give the majority vote to another candidate. There is nothing unfair about this system. It allows you to vote for your principles in the primary.

So Trump is the special snowflake that we have to change the rules for so that it’s easier for him to get the nomination than every other candidate in history.

Up yours! Trump is dwarfing everyone else in the field, and nominating someone else on a technicality is the surest way to make "Republican" the third party.

Most of the comments you mentioned merely stated that the delegates are bound to a given candidate, which is true (for the first vote), or saying that the elites could cheat to get their guy (also true, as with any process), or that the rules were changed to favor a less-popular candidate in a splintered field, and that the some rules can still yet be changed again, also true.

You want to believe that only you understand the intricacies of the process amidst a sea of ignorant trumpanzees, but in reality nobody has indicated a lack of understanding as to how the a nominee is chosen.

We choose the delegates because they have the same view that we have. No matter if Trump is the front runner if he doesn’t have the majority of the vote then he doesn’t represent the Majority of the party’s votes. The primary makes sure that all our votes count in the end not just Trump supporters votes.

The goal for every candidate who isn’t the front runner is to force a brokered convention, many have tried and failed.

The goal for every front runner is to prevent a brokered convention by winning it outright with more than 50% of the vote and guarantee themselves the nominal.

Trump’s obstacle is the same as every other front running candidate in every primary season.

Stop trying to make it easier for him because poor Trump has had it tougher than everyone else, he hasn’t.

Yes, very orderly. Until during the middle of the voting season, they come up with a strategy to intentionally come up with a different "principle candidate" than those running and being voted for.

Now, let things proceed according to your tried and true method WITHOUT articulating a strategy to thwart that very process BY INTENTION. Then you would be talking.

If you can't understand this, if you are pretending that every primary season sees this kind of activity and according your post things are just going right along as they "always have and nothing has changed", then you aren't a very honest person or you are a very naive person. One or the other.

Please inform us which front running candidates in history have been replaced due to the lack of a majority.
