Tom Delay: Voters Need to Understand “The Delegates Pick the Nominee” (Video)
The Gateway Pundit ^ | 03/05/2016 | Jim Hoft

Posted on 03/05/2016 11:06:05 AM PST by nhwingut

Former House Majority Leader Tom Delay told Cavuto the GOP voters need to understand that the “delegates pick the nominee.”

Tom Delay: It’s not stealing the nomination. It’s the process. People need to realize that this is not an election of a president. This is the nomination of a candidate. And there’s a process and there’s rules and everybody has a fair shot at those rules. But in the end, the representatives, the delegates make the decision at the convention one way or another. And if no candidate gets to the convention with the majority of the votes then the delegates, duly elected to represent the people who have voted, get to decide. It’s not stealing anything.

Video at link.

I know, but it’s so much fun!! Plus, if you let a lie stand, it eventually finds its way into “common knowledge”.

“Well, I know it’s gotta be true. I saw it on FreeRepublic, and if they admit that TD is a crook, he must be really, really bad!”

If Trump is one delegate short, he will not get the nomination......Another Hillary voter, I see.

I would NEVER vote for Hillary. She's as bad as Trump.

The Hammer is establishment GOP though, 100%. Just sayin’

That may be entirely true, but I can't handle someone spreading lies about someone who was behaving honorably. And he's correct about the delegates. In Texas, the popular vote can go one way and the delegate count another. The delegates choose the candidate, not the people.

Like it or not, them's the rules.

That’s a bunch of BS.

If Trump goes to the convention one short of 1237 and doesn’t get the nomination, then it’s only because of anti-middle class sentiment that Trump will not walk out the candidate.

Period.

And I will be among that first batch clamoring for him to go third party.

Oh, by the way, thanks for the clear and courteous reply. Those are getting rare around here.

If the people have no say in who the nominee is, why bother with primaries and voting? Oh, I get it. It’s to SELL ad time on TV and SELL campaign memorabilia and to SELL consultant services.

“I for one am sick and tired of being told that the only way you can be a conservative is voting for a con man”

Never seen anyone assert that. Can you elaborate?

According to a lot of people on these boards, anyone who doesn't back Trump 100% is GOPE or not conservative. Trump is a con man, ergo you don't vote for or support a con man you're not conservative. My God, people on here have thrown Cruz, Rush, Beck, Levin, Delay etc. under the bus because they have seen through Trump. These are people who have mostly fought the good fight for years, yet a man who doesn't have coherent thoughts and has never stood up for conservatives deserves blind loyalty.

The “technicality” I was referring to was a front runner denied the nomination due to a lack of a majority. That is wholly different from a nominee who lacked a majority, which is what I believe you are hiding behind.

As for my “deliberate ignorance” ... easy to say for someone trying to make an argument from the “I’ve got a secret” premise. My home address is easily accessible from the Internet: that doesn’t mean you know what to ask to find it.

Rules is rules, y’know.

Not when they are imposed from on high, then expecting to secure my vote.

First: when there were two debate teams, it was there are just too many single digit candidates who need to get out of the race.

Second: down to one debate team and then it was the also rans need to get out of the race and allow the party to coalesce around one candidate.

Third: now down to a few and now everyone needs to stay in to on a prayer broker the convention because we don't like the way the result is shaping up.

Now we're told of course, a brokered convention is the dream and purpose of every candidate, always has been. They need to stay in now so the party doesn't coalesce around one candidate.

What part of "Never Trump" do you not understand? Rules be damned.

Trump has and is playing by the rules. Things are different for Trump than any other candidate, and when he wins the nomination, it will look like GW did when he grabbed the bull horn in the middle of ground zero.

Bringing the GOP towers to the ground is not necessary, but since they are bent on destroying themselve, we better plan for it.

If Trump “wins,” by getting 50% + 1 votes, there’s no issue. If he fails to get that many votes, he simply did not win. He almost won, but now there’s a new process in play.

Fancy that! Someone who actually expects others to believe hyperbole!

Not one that actually takes the nomination away from him!

The electoral college doesn't HAVE to vote for the candidate they're supposed to, but it's never been done before, and for good reason.

There are a few...A very few...One that comes to mind is Jeff Sessions....Another is one trying to get elected and replace a GOPe RINO...That would be Dr. Greg Brannon in North Carolina...

Without the majority, he has not won the nomination. If someone else wins it on later ballots, it would be completely legitimate.

No, it would not. It's never happened before, and it damn sure better not happen this time.

Tom, I was a supporter, I know you got a raw deal legally and I'm glad it was overturned. In hindsight I wonder if your service was worth the credit you got.

Given that, what was the point? Any reasonably informed person knows we elect delegates. The delegates vote for the nominee. So, what's the point?

We know that after the first ballot delegates can vote as they choose. We know the Party can change the rules on whim. We're just counseling that you show good judgment...and stop F@#%ING with us.

They can pick someone who did not even run. After the first ballot, delegates are free and allowed to deal. Politics 101 and it’s embarrassing y’all are so ignorant.

You are ignorant. Everyone knows they can...we're warning them not to.

Wow. You are woefully uninformed. Don’t you look things up and perhaps learn about a subject before you act like you know anything about it?
