One, read a transcript of his remarks. Or, take a specific page from an IQ test. One of the tests is the words "RED" "BLUE" "GREEN" "BROWN" (or something similar over and over in columns on a page, in random order: but the name of the color, is different from the color ink the word is written in.
They have you go through and name the ink color for each word as fast as you can; then go through and read the words themselves on the second pass. The way to do the first is to blur your vision and don't even try to read the words; the way to do the second is just concentrate on the first couple of letters of the word.
So with Obama. Disentangling the diction, inflection, accent, and pauses, from the "content" of his speech robs it of all its power. Or, if you ignore the actual words, you find yourself instinctively nodding at the cadence -- it's like one comic described phone numbers -- bum-bum-bum, BA-Dum, Bum -Dum.
