First on CNN: Team Romney explores blocking Trump at RNC

Mitt Romney has instructed his closest advisers to explore the possibility of stopping Donald Trump at the Republican National Convention, a source close to Romney's inner circle says.

The 2012 GOP nominee's advisers are examining what a fight at the convention might look like and what rules might need revising.

"It sounds like the plan is to lock the convention," said the source.

Romney is focused on suppressing Trump's delegate count to prevent him from accumulating the 1,237 delegates he needs to secure the nomination.

But implicit in Romney's request to his team to explore the possibility of a convention fight is his willingness to step in and carry the party's banner into the fall general election as the Republican nominee. Another name these sources mentioned was House Speaker Paul Ryan, Romney's running mate in 2012.

Obama wasn’t a threat to the GOPe cash machine. Trump is.

Mitt Romney is going to make other voters jump ship and vote Trump. The GOP voters hate games like this. This kind of underhanded garbage is why Trump is so popular.

This has got to be the dumbest electoral year I have ever seen. The GOPe is just suicidal this year.

This is getting way out of control...like a wildfire spreading.

It shows you how high the stakes really are. Now is not the time for us to go wobbly.

They are playing us for fools.

The Dems will pull the same type of thing.

Is it any wonder that the voters are angry?

Actually it is a foregone conclusion a liberal will get elected ... either the witch or the Donald.

So why not try to overthrow that if you are a conservative? If Donald has a hissy fit and runs third party, oh well

I actually hope they ask both Cruz and Rubio about this tonight. I want to hear their answer.

Romney is setting the table for Biden, just as he set the table for 0bongo.

I’m very much interested in hearing what Cruz and Rubio have to say about the Romney attack and a brokered convention. I’ll tell you one thing, I never expected to see Cruz team up with Rubio like he did. Anyway, I will never vote for another GOP establishment candidate, if Trump goes third-party at some point, I’m going with him.

The fact that the party bosses believe this could somehow work and win the general election illustrates precisely why Trump is so popular.

If you ever wondered how the country got to be 20 Trillion dollars in debt... now you know. A bunch of lawyer / lawmakers on both sides of the aisle throwing money in the air and the winner is the one who can scoop up the most.

The Hinckley Institute led me to my first paid job in politics at the age of 19, and the rest is history.

This appears to be the same Hinckley family whose son tried to kill Ronald Reagan so that “Uncle George could become President.”

My contempt for the GOPe and their money masters is matched only by my loathing of Hillary.

You know there has been a lot of GOPe dislike around here and I never really agreed as much. Oh I do now. This is ridiculous. Thank goodness Reice Prievis (whatever his name is) said this would never happen. He said if Trump is the nominee with delegates, he gets 100 percent support.

We are perilously close to a third party here. Romney better tread carefully. There has never been any sort of love or commitment to Romney. He was the default option because there were no others four years ago. Had Christie or Rubio or some of the first term office holders have gone for it, they could have easily won. Romney’s opposition was filled with talented but non-competitive options.

No, Trump will now win in larger numbers. We are watching the suicide of the GOPe. It will be a slaughter.

The dumbest part of all this is that Trump would have worked with them. If you actually listen to what his positions are he is even more liberal than them. Now Trump will only get there on the coattails of anger against the GOPe. He betrays the base after all this and I would not want to be him, just like I would not want to be the GOPe today.

The way the GOPe is acting toward the general voting publis is reminiscent of the way the Politboro acted toward the USSR peasants in the old Soviet Union...What they wanted or wished for was irrelevant...

Just like today’s GOPe....

What are the odds of this blowing up in the GOP’s face? Am I low at 100%?

Absolutely stunning how stupid these people are. I mean really really stupid. Almost to the point where you think "they can't be this stupid" and have to think that this desperation is to continue to cover up some deeper, covert, corrupt agenda.
