Mitt Romney has instructed his closest advisers to explore the possibility of stopping Donald Trump at the Republican National Convention, a source close to Romney's inner circle says.
The 2012 GOP nominee's advisers are examining what a fight at the convention might look like and what rules might need revising.
"It sounds like the plan is to lock the convention," said the source.
Romney is focused on suppressing Trump's delegate count to prevent him from accumulating the 1,237 delegates he needs to secure the nomination.
But implicit in Romney's request to his team to explore the possibility of a convention fight is his willingness to step in and carry the party's banner into the fall general election as the Republican nominee. Another name these sources mentioned was House Speaker Paul Ryan, Romney's running mate in 2012.

This is such a failure. Even Shapiro who is very anti-Trump has said this was an embarrassment. Romney has NO FANS. He will only help Trump.

So maybe they’re hoping to force Trump to go 3rd party? I don’t think he’ll blink first.
The geniuses at the RNC haven’t quite figured out that the more they turn the convention into “Dealing For Delegates”, the better Trump likes it - that’s his wheelhouse.
If Trump has the delegates and the GOPe find some way to stop his nomination, the GOP will all but cease to exist...

When was Mitt Romney elected King of the Republican Party? This dope let Candy Crowley and Obama steamroll him in front of the nation, lost the election badly, and then was next seen pumping gas looking disheveled. He was not heard from for a long while except to make a fool of himself in a boxing match.
Now he gets to decide the nominee of the Republican Party? He suddenly owns the party?
I wonder if he realizes that whatever goodwill he had was lost today. He revealed himself to be a snob, a hypocrite, a hitman and a nasty piece of work.
And I voted for Cruz. I can’t imagine what Trump voters are thinking.

sat down with small business owners at Gino's East,
a pizza joint famous for their deep-dish pizza.
In fact, Romney himself tweeted a photo of a
delivery boy heading out with the loot, writing,

My contempt for the GOPe and their money masters is matched only by my loathing of Hillary. They know perfectly well that screwing the top vote getter out of the nomination would finish any chance of winning in Nov. They don’t care, as long as they keep control of their political cash machine, the Republican Party. If Trump is not the nominee, or if the GOPe manages to undermine him to the point Hillary (or some other Democrat) is elected I’m permanently done with them.
OK now they’re just daring people to give them the finger and vote for Trump.

I voted for Romney in 2012. I won’t vote for him or any other elitist, exempt, feckless LIAR the GOPe proffers. At pall, under any circumstances.
