Mexico says won't pay for Trump's 'terrible' border wall

There is no way Mexico would fund Donald Trump's "terrible" plan to build a wall along its border with the United States if the Republican front-runner wins the U.S. presidential election, the Mexican finance minister said.

Trump, the New York billionaire developer and former reality television star, sparked outrage in Mexico when he vowed to force Latin America's second largest economy to pay for a wall along the southern U.S. border to stem the flow of illegal immigration and drugs.

In a televised interview late on Wednesday, Finance Minister Luis Videgaray categorically rejected the proposal.

"Under no circumstance will Mexico pay for the wall that Mr. Trump is proposing," he said. "Building a wall between Mexico and the United States is a terrible idea. It is an idea based on ignorance and has no foundation in the reality of North American integration."

Put a moat filled with alligators in front of the wall.

**********

If the wall was built on the actual Texas/Mexico border line you’d have water as the
middle of the Rio Grande river is the border in most locations.

[You know....I think I’d even be ok paying for it ourselves.]

Sell personalized bricks for the wall. It would be paid for in no time.

stop all payments of any kind to illegals. Bill Mexico directly for emergency medical costs, stop allowing illegals to attend all schools, stop all welfare, social security, disability payments. Rigorously reject all invalid social security numbers in use and duplicates. Use that money to build the wall, done in one year will money left over

They’ll lose countless pesos from the enormous drop in remittances from illegals. Amounts to over $20 billion per year. That’s why they’re so freaked out. So yeah, they’ll pay whether they admit it or not.

I’m looking for a massive Tariff to be imposed by President Trump

************

I assume that is how he’s saying Mexico will pay for it. But who pays the actual price at
the counter is the one actually paying the price as the purchase price will reflect the
tariff charges at some point.

Wall paid for - by the American citizens, not Mexico. Tariffs get tacked onto the sales price.

If they keep whining maybe an exit tax will be in order.
After the wall is built and the jobs are gone they will
be willing to pay to get out of here. lol

In fact let’s make it a toll wall. Any vehicle coming into the US from Mexico can incur a per axle charge.

I don’t think the president has unilateral discretion on foreign aid. If the money is appropriated by Congress for a specific purpose, the president can’t just repurpose that money on his own.

Good fences make good neighbors.

Mexico is an awful neighbor but perhaps a serious Trump style wall will make them into a good neighbor

I keep getting tripped up on that too. THe best way to make Mexico pay is to simply create a better climate in the US for business, thus removing the incentive to move work there and in fact, creating one for moving it back to the USA. Then the wall becomes even more important because the initial reason illegal immigration started was because there were better opportunities here, so typically a man would sneak across the border and work illegally and send money back home to his family in Mexico.
