Trump took seven of 11 contests, winning by stunning margins in states as diverse as Massachusetts (by 31.2 percentage points) and Georgia (by 14.4 percentage points.) There is evidence that he is not only winning over a large segment of the Republican base but also that he is bringing new voters to the polls.
It is not hyperbole to say that Trump has created an existential crisis for the Republican Party one that would play out very publicly in a brokered convention. Does the GOP risk losing its conservative identity and many of its conservative members by nominating Trump, a man with a history of vague and opportunistic policy positions? Or does it deny him the nomination, by hook or by crook, and almost certainly alienate both a huge swath of longtime supporters and the Trump-inspired newcomers in the process?
Either way, the likely result is a crippled candidate heading into a November showdown with Hillary Clinton. The Democrats already have a large demographic advantage over the GOP, meaning that while Republican candidates definitely have paths to victory in a general election, they are narrow and rely on winning multiple close races. If the GOP sees mass defections from either appalled conservatives or angry Trump supporters, the result will almost certainly be a loss in November. (To be clear, they wouldnt have to switch their votes to Clinton. Just staying home would do the trick all by itself.)

Newt Gingrich: Wake Up, Republicans! It's either Trump or Clinton.

NO! NO! NO!
That’s “winning with Clinton!”
Sheesh!
Nonsense! Never let the truth get in the way of the agenda.
The party's conservative identity was lost long ago. The nominations of McCain and then Romney nailed their coffin shut.
++++++++++++++++
Congress Dems are used to dealing with stone-cold killers like McConnell and Boehner. They will eat Trump alive.
For the GOPe Hillary is preferable. The party is their cash cow, and they don’t want Trump and the peasants to take it away. With Hillary as president they keep their power, and can use fear of Hillary and a Democrat congress to keep us in line at election time, and the donations flowing in. Nothing changes!
OTOH, should the GOPEers pull some funny business, that's it; just start calling the GOP THE WHIGS!
And without Trump, there wasn't/isn't now a candidate who can beat ANY Dem nominee and never was one, even though there is NO enthusiasm on the other side, at all.
It’s all about the gravy train. The elites should rule! /s
Trump is crippled?

I hear ya. We’re from the same school on that.
The Trump is a racist meme is exploding all over the media, internet, radio & TV 24/7. Unless Trump can get those flames extinguished quickly he will be just another in a long, long line of republican patsy types who gets race-mongered to the point of no longer being electable....
Tell us how McCinnell and Boehner governed as conservatives?
If there were no republicans whatsoever in congress for the past 7 years, how would we be any different as a nation today?
They didn’t. That was my point — the party has been devoid of conservative leadership for a long time.
For that to actually work, the races have to believe that somehow Donald trump was a closet KKK racist for all of his life
At some point they wake up and realize their grievances are being pimped by very old very rich very white democrats who haven’t done anything for them in decades except cultivate them for votes
The GOP’s fault is always playing defense and the democrats fault is way overplaying the offense on this one, to the point of hysterical nonsense that just energizes a lot more formerly apolitical people who resent being played
The gope does not care that they lose.Past 2 elections have proven that,They are not under the laws forced on the rest of us and thats bullshit.
“Congress Dems are used to dealing with stone-cold killers like McConnell and Boehner. They will eat Trump alive.”
No they won’t. Trump will go right over the heads of Congress and straight to the people.
If there is a brokered convention to steal the nomination from Trump, he goes third party, splits the republican vote and hands the election to Clinton.
If he wins the nomination, as much as the Trump supporters like to stick their fingers in their ears and shut their eyes tight, Donald doesn't poll well against Hillary in a one-on-one for the general.
Hatred of Trump is just really hatred of American voters who are disgusted with politicians and their swarms of agents and tentacles. Trump is just a big o'l X mark that symbolizes every one of us who is fed up. Economy of scale just works out nicely in this situation.
It may even be about more than that. The senate seems to be leading the charge against Trump. IMO, their posturing belies their fear. The insiders are scared shiiteless of this outsider. Why? Could it be because he threatens to expose their malfeasance and dereliction of duty?
