I met a guy yesterday at an auto-repair place (FNC was on the TV there) explaining that Republicans like him were going for Trump because of all those broken promises made by GOP in 2014. (we hear this one all the time)

He said Trump is their revenge, plus he said he thinks Trump can actually change Washington and ‘get it done’, where Cruz cant.

So what happens when Trump fails to deliver most of what he claims he will do? And does other stuff instead?

Will it be just like what is going on now?

Will they just say ‘whatever...I don’t care’ like they do now????

For how I, after a lifelong working relationship with some very hard nosed Conservatives, find Donald to be a Conservative, is the point of this thread:

Metaphor For American Conservatism

While, as acknowledged, he is a work in progress; he has the basic attributes of a conservative personality, and his personal progress is clearly in that direction.

By the way, if you saw his victory speech last night; you would see how much progress he has made since the start of this campaign.

Well...he just turned me off when he basically blamed conservatives recently for the dismal clusterf*k we’re enduring currently. How the hell is it conservatives’ fault? Would a real conservative blame his fellow conservatives like that?

I understand your hope that he is morphing into a conservative. But he has a looong way to go from being the leftist-supporting liberal that he was up until 2011. Hope springs, I guess.

No, do not think so.

Some are a little ‘unhinged’ in their support and are HEAVILY INVESTED EMOTIONALLY in him! (cfeo) Think more unhinged will be the light side!

I worry about some if he disappoints. Old enough to know we will be disappointed if we get our expectations to high.

Revenge seems to be the point!

BTW hope you do not mind me posting your statement!!!

Not to argue the point when you said “this thread”

“For how I, after a lifelong working relationship with some very hard nosed Conservatives, find Donald to be a Conservative, is the point of this thread: “

Think it would be a blog???

Seems his equivocating statement re: PP should be a concern. He did say “if the abortions continue” but is that a beginning of a negotiation point?

The “thread” I was referring to, was not this thread. I forgot that I was replying to you in this thread, rather than one based on my article, a link to which I posted. The link went to the feature article, not to the thread with comments thereon.

Went to the link and saw it was a post re: Trump’s evolution.

Thanks for the clarification.

Trump isn't confined by the prison of facts and what is possible , he can ‘speak to the people’ promising the impossible to them.”

Well there is that little copyright issue.

To be fair others in the race have been promising things they cant or wont deliver if they won.

But Trump always has to go bigger and more so he supersizes his promises out-doing all the others.

Back in 2011 I wrote a little essay about that here, I am quite proud of it still.

Notice what Trump said:

I (Trump) am going to get along great with Congress.

I (Trump) am going to get along great with him (Paul Ryan).

If I (Trump) don't [get along great with Paul Ryan] – he (Paul Ryan) is gonna have to pay a big price.

So the onus is not Ryan to get along with Trump, Trump is putting the onus on himself to get along with Ryan.

Also note Trump does not say Ryan is going to pay a big price, he says Ryan is going to have to pay a high price.

Basically what Trump is saying is, whenever Trump is in a bad mood, or does not agree with Congress, Ryan will have to pay a price to get Trump to play nice. Pay for play.

So if Ryan and the Republicans have a bill or a budget they are proposing, it is not enough for Trump to be a Republican President for him to sign it. Trump will demand a price for him to sign it.

This is a huge difference from how most are interpreting these comments.

Trump is making it clear. He will run his presidency independent of the greater Republican party. He also will dole out favors (including support for bills), based on being paid for those favors. No different from how he runs his businesses today.
