China takes Philippine atoll

MANILA, Philippines – The Chinese have taken over another traditional Filipino fishing ground near Palawan where they have stationed up to five ships to keep local fishermen at bay, sources said.

Now effectively under Chinese control is Quirino or Jackson Atoll, which has been a rich source of catch for a long time for fishermen from Palawan, Southern Luzon, Western Visayas and even Manila.

Gray and white Chinese vessels have not left the atoll, which Filipino fishermen also call Jackson Five, because of the existence of five lagoons in the area.

The Chinese are claiming almost the entire South China Sea, including the West Philippine Sea. Manila is contesting Beijing’s claim before an international arbitral court based in The Hague.

Filipino fishermen lamented the Chinese vessels would not allow them to come near or linger in the Quirino Atoll.

What’s to stop them? ubama and Valerie Jarrett and John Kerry?

Qui Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi. It is after all, a trade route dispute.

Every time China acts up, we should retaliate. If they do something exceptionally crappy, we should GIVE Taiwan nuclear weapons.

Currently, Islam is the second largest religion of the Philippine population. This will be interesting to watch. Will Bambi get involved?

Islam ranks #2 for religion in the Philippines. What does “uninhabitable” have to do with it? Look where the muzzies come from.

“Subic is a strategic location — one of two best natural ports in the Pacific, along with Cam Ranh Bay. Used to be known for the ability to dry-dock a carrier. And Clark has two parallel 12,000 foot runways, with lots of tarmac to boot.”

And the ChiComs aren’t licking their chops over Clark & Subic?

BTW, are the Russkies still using Cam Ranh Bay?

Muslims make @5% of the Philippine population.
The “islands” in question are underwater at high tide.
Even the most insane jihadist would find making a home there more suicidal than they would like.

people are unaware of the predatory way in which the chinese commies have been snapping up access to many of the world’s rarest minerals and resources. they’ve practically recolonized africa and it’s all been done on the back of our trade deficit with them. they are waging war against us. it’s in the early stages. like a chess game, they are setting up the board for their endgame.

feckless leaders like Clinton, Bush, Obammy have really hurt us badly in preparing for this endgame.

They would love to have them eventually, but they're a long way from outright invasions -- their Navy is not powerful enough to project that kind of power, yet. The Taiwanese have a big commercial/trade presence in the P.I., and that doesn't settle well with the mainland Chinese government. The mainland Chinese are testing the mettle of the Filipinos by gradual encroachment, taking the fishing grounds, taking atolls, militarizing islands (some that were built from dredging), in the South China Sea, and now even within claimed territorial limits (such as this case with the Philippines).

One big problem is, like the Japanese before WWII, the mainland Chinese have an aggressive military leadership that is reckless in both rhetoric and action. Their military always leans toward confrontation. It's a really dangerous situation -- it reminds me of the same internal tensions that led to Japanese entry into WWII.

The PRC invading Taiwan is often met with, “Can the dragon swim?”
