I love free press. I think its great, he said Saturday on Fox News Channel, before quickly adding, We ought to open up the libel laws, and Im going to do that.
The changes envisioned by the celebrity businessman turned Republican front-runner would mean that when they write purposely negative and horrible and false articles, we can sue them and win lots of money, he said at a rally Friday in Fort Worth, Texas.
Trump added that, should he win the election, news organizations that have criticized him will have problems. He specifically cited The New York Times and The Washington Post.
Trump last month threatened to sue the Post after the newspaper wrote an article about the bankruptcy of his Atlantic City casino. On Twitter, Trump has routinely criticized reporters who cover him and their news organizations, including The Associated Press.
The press has to be fair, he said in the broadcast interview.
First Amendment advocates condemned Trumps suggestions.

He is either getting cocky or tired. Because he's slipping up. This, the David Duke mess, the way he was unprepared for the attacks at him during the last debate.... he's tired, or sloppy, or over confident. Or all of the above.
Well the press is all for “opening up” gun manufacturers and gun owners to lawsuits...
Hmmm...where have I seen such ideas tried before...
No chance this would go wrong. None at all...
Incoming! LOL. I know what you mean. I still think Trump is the better alternative to Clinton by an order of magnitude. This seems like a direct attack on the 1st Amendment though.
If someone says something about Trump that he doesn’t like then he/she should be sued and put out of business.
The First amendment doesn’t protect those who say things that hurt Trump’s election chances.
Sue, sue,sue...one lobby will love him.. trial lawyers,.
Trump shoots puppies.
Enjoy not voting.
Take out the malicious intent part of the libel law & leave the rest. Problem solved & we get honesty in the press. But make all the false headlines ya want. It’s worked “a lot” in taking Trump down, right?
Yes, let us strip away all freedoms and everyone will be equal.
Seems the press should at least corroborate their stories.
Oh really? I didn't know. The other puppies would still vote for him though.
Like your tag line
There is nothing magic about "journalists."
We are all "journalists" now.
I seriously doubt the first amendment's original intent was to allow fabrications to be dispensed whenever someone feels like expressing themselves.
Toi many distractions, too many threats. Calm down Trump.
The Mass Media should be scared on this, considering that lying is their job and favorite hobby.
A shot across the bow of the MSM! And we know making the MSM your enemy ups your vote count. Trumped again! lol.
Passing and enforcing laws that allow persons who’s person or interests have been damaged by printing blatant LIES with the INTENT to damage and/or defame is NOT a violation of the free press freedoms.
The Freedom of the Press was designed to protect people from prosecution for publishing press items that the government didn’t like.
At this point, the media is the 4th branch of government, The MSM have been taking their liberties with defaming conservatives with lies and BS stories. This abuse needs to be stopped. Why anyone with any desire for liberty is against this is beyond me.
Trump threatens to weaken First Amendment protections for reportersThese are the same people who threaten to weaken the 2nd amendment among others...How does it feel?
I know I couldn’t keep up like he has been - and at 69 years old!
18 hour days under intense and constant scrutiny, 24/7 attacks (not the least of which his own party), non-stop traveling from city to city, state to state...
I’m willing to cut him some slack.
If it saves one life...
