Sen. Ted Cruz responds to being a potential Supreme Court Justice
CBS news ^ | 2/29 | Tim Perry

During an interview for Face the Nation, host John Dickerson asked Republican presidential candidate, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) if he would consider accepting the vacant spot on the Supreme Court after the sudden death of Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia. This comes after Republican presidential candidates and Republican members of the senate have vowed not to approve anyone President Obama nominates during his last year in office.

"That is not a job I'm interested in." Cruz said and added, "The job I'm interested in is appointing 3, 4, 5 Supreme Court justices, is defending the constitution."

The Texas senator vowed that as president he would reverse the damages done by Barack Obama and that he would be "faithful and vigorous defending the constitution."

Six months ago this was considered an asset around here. FR has evolved.

At frightening speed. Disagreement has turned into hatred. I've had my integrity questioned and been demeaned by fellow Freepers more in the past month than the entire 16 years prior combined. I'm ready for this election cycle to be over. For everyone else, of course Ted Cruz says he wants to be the one to appoint the next three to five justices as opposed to being one of the justices. He is running for the Republican nomination. Stop with the double standard. Just for the record, I am not pro-Cruz. After his linking up with Beck and the campaign letter claiming "voter violation" I unhitched my wagon. But, because I am not in the tank for Trump, I will continue to be maligned. Fine. Interestingly, I have not been attacked by a Cruz supporter for dumping Cruz. Speaks loudly of the tone of this internet info-sharing site.

The first item in the Constitution Cruz should address is Canadians posing as NBC of the US.

Poor not so smart genius Cruz. He could have made a big splash had he not sold his soul to the corporate and political globalists. He was my first choice until I saw his arrogant disdain for his fellow Americans. It is too deep and I for one will never trust him.

The huge increase in these venom filled; irrational postings here is just amazing.

When Trump turns out to be something different than what his fervent supporters are projecting on to him; these folks are going to have MAJOR issues.

“Reich is a character witness for Trump. That’s why I’m voting for Cruz. The only thing I believe about Reich is that is very wrong on just about everything.”

“wrong on just about everything”??

But he is right about Trump?

Cruz was my first choice too. I honestly don’t know when he flipped. Or was he pretending to be anti establishment? He keeps screaming Trump should release his tax returns - The same guy who wants to abolish the IRS. Cruz backing Rubio was the final straw. Sneaky, slimy, untrus-TED!

Cruz did not flip. He was always a globalist, but he hid it rather well.

He condemns illegal immigration with right mouth and makes millions more American destroying immigrants legal with left mouth. Result to American workers same or worse than current staus quo.

Cruz should have settled for VP, I believe he made a big mistake going after the frontrunner instead. That would have put him in a sweet spot for future presidential elections. Maybe he was too beholden to his donors to make a wise call.

Compromise? Compromise? When our country was mostly right we started to compromise to the demise of our conservative nation.

Take your compromises to satan where they belong.

My comments are fine here, thank you. Maybe you should look in a mirror. I can quote Scripture any time I want...always suspicious of the sincerity of those who make such statements as you have...

When Trump turns out to be something different than what his fervent supporters are projecting on to him; these folks are going to have MAJOR issues.

I dunno. Even if Trump fails to do half the stuff he promises, I don't see him slamming or demeaning the working middle class, and I think it's this trait that draws people to him. The intelligentsia and power elite make a lot of fun of Trump for his pride in having graduated from Wharton, but every time he brings that up, he is standing with the common man (those who go to state schools) against the elites who brag on their Ivy League schools.

When it gets right down to it, Trump really doesn't care where someone got their degree, or if they got a degree at all. Trump may waffle on a lot of fronts, but one thing he's held firm on is his disinterest in paying homage to the establishment. When he started his club at Mar-A-Lago, he took in many of the black and Jewish people, and the people who were too "rough edged" (i.e., didn't have a college education), who'd longed to join the other clubs and who had long been rejected.

Trump may mow over the little guy if someone gets in his way, but he'll do his level best to mow over the big guys if their in his way. Trump's major appeal, I suspect, is the fact that he respects -- or doesn't respect -- everybody equally.

He may think he knows best, but he doesn't go from there to assuming people who disagree with him are therefore stupid, racist, reactionary, etc. etc. And in his personal life, when people -- like his butler, who didn't like an advanced position Trump wanted to move him into -- tell him they're not interested in what he thinks is best for them, he's okay with that. He only calls people losers when they're blocking him from something he wants -- he doesn't call people losers for choosing a different path in life.

If Trump makes President, I think he'll be like Reagan in the sense that his core group of followers will think he's the Bees Knees whatever he does, because they care more about who he is than about what he does.

...and more than he’d settle for serving in the military...in any capacity. Of course, among his peers, he has a whole lot of company.

A guy running for POTUS is not the kind of personality who wants to spend the rest of his life on SCOTUS.

Yup, William Howard Taft was the last one to do it. He WANTED To be Chief Justice, but his wife wanted him to be president. After he was beaten in 1912 by Wilson, he eventually got his wish. He wasn't vested in running for President in '08. He spent a lot of time on the gold course and on his front porch. He won on the strength of being VP under TR.

Then those people really are ignorant, because Wharton IS an Ivy League school:

"The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania (also known as the Wharton School, the Wharton School of Business, or simply Wharton) is the business school of the University of Pennsylvania, a private Ivy League university located in Philadelphia." (Wikipedia)

Yah, and it regularly scores in the top three or top five best business schools — but Trump still gets laughed at for it. Go figure.

Ted will compromise on nothing and therefore has accomplished virtually nothing.

Ah compromise - that's how its done? Good to know. We are all 19 trillion in debt from compromising but yes that's the ticket. Lets go with that.
