Clinton thunders to big win over Sanders in South Carolina

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Hillary Clinton overwhelmed Bernie Sanders in Saturday's South Carolina primary, drawing staggering support from the state's black Democrats and seizing an increasingly strong position as the presidential race barrels toward Super Tuesday's crucial contests.

Clinton's lopsided win — she led by 48 points with nearly all precincts counted — provided an important boost for her campaign and a moment to wipe away bitter memories of her loss to Barack Obama in South Carolina eight years ago. She won the support of nearly 9 in 10 black voters, crucial Democratic backers who abandoned her for Obama in 2008.

During a raucous victory rally, Clinton briefly reveled in her sweeping support from South Carolina voters, hugging backers and posing with them for selfie photos. But then she pivoted quickly to the contests to come.

"Tomorrow this campaign goes national," she said. "We are not taking anything, and we are not taking anyone, for granted."

Sanders, expecting defeat, left the state even before voting was finished and turned his attention to next Tuesday's delegate-rich contests.

This is crucial & has major implications for the general. There is a huge enthusiasm gap that Hillsry is going to have to overcome if she is going to have a chance.

WTH country am I living in anyway? A serial traitor, guilty of treason on multiple counts will either go to prison or become president?

Attention must now be paid to Hillary’s VP choice. Bernie’s toast. Whoever that VP is will be finishing Hillary’s first term as President if she wins, given her health and legal situation. She is effectively a place-holder for whoever is VP. That person will be the one with the Chicago-bolshie hooks into him/her; will be the one to carry on with the ‘fundamental transformation.’

Clinton is about as likely to win South Carolina in November as Trump, or any other GOP nominee, is likely to win Massachusetts.

Not so. 295K for BO in 2008 vs. 271K for Hillary on Saturday. Source here.

Thanks for the clarification.

From the overall numbers, Hillary shouldn't waste any money campaigning in SC in the fall.

That was a huge barfer. Has she missed that many who covered this up for two years, including the mayor and the federally run EPA, are Democrats?

That is a great and hopeful statistic.

My big question is does Trump have enough votes to stave off Clinton and $10m illegal votes strategically placed around the country. It so, someone convince me. Yes, I have changed Cruz to Trump in the primary mostly due to Sundance’ s analysis about the GOP conversion and organization.

Also, does Trump win over Romney even with those GOPe conversion shenanigans? If so, someone convince me.

I am looking for real salient, tacit analysis, not sophomoric sarcasm. This is brass tacks time and Koch and the immigration cartels are spending $ to destroy and hold onto their establishment.

Agreed. The only real value of the South Carolina primary for Democrats is to get an early gauge of how they fare with their most loyal constituency.

Judging by the lopsided numbers here, it shows us that Sanders is going to have a real problem with GOTV should some miracle happen such as Hillary getting indicted at just the right time that he becomes the only alternative by default. That's really the only hope Bernie has at this point.

I believe Trump may be able to pull it off.

The turnout is record breaking in the GOP primaries so far.

The number of people attending the rallies is unbelievable in any kind of weather or circumstances people crawling over broken glass to see him. I heard people were lining up the night before a rally of all things!

I believe America is finally waking up from the eight year nightmare of the Won and also starting to really see how far and wide the corruption on both sides goes. I don’t believe that would have happened without Trump. He is the only one with the clout to get the message out there and he’s been exposing people for what they are all along.

Sorry, I’m not as smart as the others here so no statistics or brilliant analysis here just my thoughts on what I’m seeing.

Soooo, the democrats in South Carolina voted for a stroke-damaged, rum-soaked liar? Reflects what they think of their country.
