Theres this desire, verging on panic, to consolidate the field, said Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, a former supporter of Mr. Bush. But I dont see any movement at all.
Mr. Rubios advisers were also thwarted in their efforts to secure an endorsement from Mr. Romney, whom they lobbied strenuously after the Feb. 20 South Carolina primary.
Mr. Romney had been eager to tilt the race, and even called Mr. Christie after he ended his campaign to vent about Mr. Trump and say he must be stopped. On the night of the primary, Mr. Romney was close to endorsing Mr. Rubio himself, people familiar with his deliberations said.
Yet Mr. Romney pulled back, instead telling advisers that he would take on Mr. Trump directly.
After a Tuesday night dinner with former campaign aides, during which he expressed a sense of horror at the Republican race, Mr. Romney made a blunt demand Wednesday on Fox News: Mr. Trump must release his tax returns to prove he was not concealing a bombshell political vulnerability.
Mr. Trump responded only with casual derision, dismissing Mr. Romney on Twitter as one of the dumbest and worst candidates in the history of Republican politics.

The same people who gave us Obama now want to give us Hillary Clinton. Stuck On Stupid is the understatement of the year to describe them.
And they wonder why the GOP base is turning its back on them. They all deserve a one-way ticket to hell.
Wash, rinse, repeat.
Romney, Lindsey, Cruz and Rubio represent the republican party that is going down the drains.
Watch in amusement as they get destroyed.
It will all be over soon.
These traitor establishment clowns have pushed me in the direction to support Trump. I am tired of them living off the backs of the American people. Trump will bust up the ruling elite’s control of the party.
They are going to scheme and posture and bleat, threaten, extort and plot right on up until their whole house of cards gets burned right down to the ground.
The good that may come from that useless party perhaps will one day actually DO what they promise.
Romney, Lindsey, Cruz and Rubio represent the republican party that is going down the drains.
I wouldn’t put Cruz in with the establishment. He may be more hated by the establishment than even Trump.
I really like Cruz but I just don’t believe he’s going to get elected. No doubt he’s a good and brilliant man. I just don’t believe he has the right personality to get the voters.
Agreed
Ummm, didn’t Lepage endorse Trump yesterday?
“At a meeting of Republican governors the next morning, Paul R. LePage of Maine called for action. Seated at a long boardroom table at the Willard Hotel, he erupted in frustration over the state of the 2016 race, saying Mr. Trumps nomination would deeply wound the Republican Party. Mr. LePage urged the governors to draft an open letter to the people, disavowing Mr. Trump and his divisive brand of politics.”
Glad I saw your post as I was going to post this as well. Very telling that Rubio approached Christie. If the dates are accurate, it explains the Christie takedown of Rubio in New Hampshire.
“Efforts to unite warring candidates behind one failed spectacularly: An overture from Senator Marco Rubio to Mr. Christie angered and insulted the governor.”
The establishment’s hatred for Ted Cruz is personal. Ted Cruz is a line jumper inside the NWO club. That is the only difference.
He's part of it in some ways, and publicly "against" it in other ways. He knows the system, and operates comfortably inside it, having whatever advantages normally attach just by dint of holding the office of a US senator.
In the anti-Trump war, he is quite firmly on the anti-Trump side, the same side the GOPe is on.
“Paul R. LePage of Maine called for action”, then he went out and endoresed Trump! LOL
Cubans Chihuahua Marko and Pinocchio Ted attacking Big Donald.
Cruz is not part of the GOPe.
LePage did indeed endorse Trump yesterday. It will be interesting to see what he has to say, if anything, about the NYT report relating to the Feb. 20 meeting of governors. That is just a week ago.
What a vile group of people. I’m thankful this is getting exposed as well as it is (New York Times???).
Obviously, the wakeup call they should have gotten when Cantor was ousted was not enough...
