My wife's two friends are experiencing it for themselves. Both are divorced twice and both are very frustrated with men. They want long term relationships (not necessarily marriage, but they are definitely looking for a commitment). Men at their age are not willing to commit.

twice divorced? that's a huge red flag!

it's not that men won't commit...

...it's that the men those women want won't commit to them because these men have many other (younger!) options without all of the baggage and cynicism those friends of yours likely have.

After 29 years of marriage my wife let me know on my birthday nearly a year ago that she intended to leave me. According to her, she did not love me anymore and was now looking for someone to take care of her. I wasn't exciting anymore and we simply did not have enough assets even though our income and net worth are much higher than the average American family.

She is 57 and I am a few years older. She still hasn't left and I haven't demanded she leave yet. I simply can't understand her irrational expectations at this stage in life and I suspect menopause may have had something to do with it. It is like someone flipped a switch.

But, I am certain of one thing. She is in for a rude awakening if she thinks she is going to hook up with some exciting, good looking guy with lots of cash who wants to take care of her. Most single guys in our age bracket with any assets are looking for women a couple of decades younger. I personally know many women in our age group who, like my wife, have left their husbands after decades of marriage. I can say that to a person they are miserable and regret what they did. Looks like my wife will have to find that out for herself. I have had enough of it and it time for her to get down the road.

As time goes on I find that my situation is far from unique. Our society has lost its way and everyone seems so focused on selfish and unrealistic expectations.

Wouldn’t the number of single women be pretty much the same as the number of single men?

Wow, that video is really interesting!

I thought so too, so I posted it on its own thread on FR the other day ... took less than the 18 minutes of the video for the thread to be taken down, and fellow freepers including the original poster of this thread to ask if I was gay ...

Are you kidding me? It was taken down? I didn’t see much I could argue with.

We wouldn’t have had any Democrat presidents in the last 50 years if it wasn’t for the female vote.

Got the "no thanks" take down in less time than it would have taken to watch the video.

Well said.

Yes, twice divorced. In both instances they married loser bums. The second friend was a little hasty in exiting her last marriage (IMO). So that is three loser bums and one okay, but not great, guy.

So maybe I am making this woman’s point but I don’t think so. Her friends >chose< these losers.

Anyway...

Not bragging; well maybe a little — makes me happy that my wife sees the contrast in her friends failed relationships with their spouses and our relationship. We have been married for almost 30 years, I am hardworking and dedicated to my family — a Christian who values my family and I respect and love my wife.

"If you're a young man in America, you're stupid if you want kids."

Actually, I wish I had more, as the most important thing I've ever done in my life is to be a Dad. The biggest privilege and blessing I've ever had. That said, we live in a world where selfishness is applauded, and IMHO the most important aspect about choosing a spouse is to find someone with a pure spirit and who doesn't put themselves first in the world. That's not always easy to do.

Wow. That sucks!

She is definitely in for an education. You are absolutely correct that men with lots of money are looking for the young thing and no commitment.

I am not naive enough to think that it won't happen to me. It helps that we are best friends, too. But I keep praying and hoping for the best.

Yep you gotta hope your wife isn’t batshit crazy and doesn’t take you to the cleaners. It’s a hell of a gamble if you’re a young man.

There is also the question of whether this vastly disparate group that runs the gamut of race and class and has largely defied the pull of identity politics can be unified and politically activated around its remarkably common needs. The independent woman, both high earning and low earning, looks into her future and sees decades, or even a lifetime, lived outside marriage, in which she will be responsible for both earning wages and doing her own domestic labor. This is the new social compact that she requires: stronger equal-pay protections that guarantee women's labor will not be discounted because of leftover assumptions that they are likely to be supported by husbands; a higher federally mandated minimum wage, which would help to alleviate the burdens of poverty on America's hardest and least-well-remunerated workers; a national health-care system that covers reproductive intervention, so that those who want to terminate pregnancies or have babies on their own or wait until they are older to do so are able to avail themselves of the best medical technologies; more affordable housing for single people, perhaps subsidized and with attendant tax breaks for single dwellers who choose to live in smaller, environmentally friendly spaces; criminal-justice reforms that address and correct the injustices of our contemporary carceral state; government-subsidized day-care programs; federally mandated paid family leave for both women and men who have new children or who need to take time off to care for ailing family members; universal paid-sick-day compensation, regardless of gender, circumstance, or profession; increases rather than continual decreases in welfare benefits; reduced college costs and quality early-education programs. Come to think of it, these policies would benefit lots of people who are not single women as well.

For years, some conservatives have argued that single women (and their votes) are a primary cause of the loss of freedom and the growth of the American nanny-state. They were, of course, roundly denounced as sexists. It's nice to see the women responsible finally begin to admit what has been asserted all along...

That’s a stupid thing to say. Every woman I have ever dated and the one I eventually married were single.

The problem for her is that it is very difficult for a woman in her late 30s and 40s to find a nice guy. Most of the good guys are already married and the guys that aren't, are married to their careers.

Now, now. Women in their late 30s to mid 40s can find all *kinds* of hot 20-something men with 6-pack abs.

Too bad it's just for a one-night stand.

But hey, it kept the women happy through their 20s; only, somehow, once the men start passing them up for the *new* crop of easy 20-something girls, "You GO, girl" suddenly becomes "Where have all the good men gone?"

Take the RED pill, gentlemen. Try dalrock.com or therationalmale.com to start.
