Maybe that National Elections are not won preaching to the only to the choir but by bringing in the middle road voters?

Note that this is 33% of the 22% that identified as "independent" in exit polls. All the other candidates got a share of the "independent vote" too. 2% of the people exit polled identified as DEM.
